Apparently the damage is akin to what happened in 92.

This thing took a hard right turn in the last couple hours before landfall and hit an area that wasnt completely expecting it, and hadnt been evacuated to the same extent that the Tampa area was.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) -- The death toll from Hurricane Charley rose early Saturday, when a county official said there had a been "significant loss of life" at a mobile home park and deputies were standing guard over stacks of bodies because the area was inaccessible to ambulances.

Wayne Sallade, Charlotte County's director of emergency management, said early Saturday that there were "a number of fatalities" at the mobile home park, and that there were confirmed deaths in at least three other areas in the county.

You really need to grow up junior. A lot of people are suffering right now because a storm of proportions you'll never understand destroyed their homes and a large chunk of their lives. That is nothing to joke about.

All you people who have hard feelings over losing to Tampa need to get a grip. Its over. Get on with it. You want to be bitter, consider being bitter toward the Flames who choked on home ice and then didn't bother to show up in game seven until there were 10 minutes left. Don't be bitter toward a very good young team that wanted it more than the Flames did. Calgary fans are supposed to be the best fans around, well that should mean they can see past defeat and acknowledge they were trumped by a better team. In other words be a good loser and not a bitter prick. There was a thread here that whined about who has the worst fans, well guys like you give Calgary fans just as bad a name as the guys you were flinging your feces at for largely the same reasons.

And of the tables were turned? What if a tornado struck Calgary and some Oiler fan made a joke about the Saddledome being struck. Would that be funny? Would you get your undies in a knot? Damn rights you would. Don't joke about the misery of others. Its not a cool thing to do.

I'll do what I feel like. You old kodger you! Don't forget to take your exlax.

Obviously I don't wish the people of Tampa any harm, but I will always hold a bitter spot in my heart for that area and will joke about it whenever possible.

Well the ill wishes to others in a joking manner aside.....

The death toll is now confirmed at 15 and growing with HUNDREDS still missing.

The devastation is unbelievable and very much wide spread. Tampa missed the brunt by the way, but many communities including Orlando weren't so lucky.

Just got off the phone with my brother-in-law who is riding the remnants out in Wilmington NC, and he says it's pretty nasty as a category 1.

The category 4 that slammed the western coast had to of been absolutely scary as hell. 2 million without power, 100,000's of thousands possibly homeless.

nasty nasty stuff.

Not really...some minor flooding and no wind damage.

One area lost power but it's been restored already.

They are sending their emergency crews to the SW part of the state to help out. Gonna take months to clean up and years to re-build.

Well it could be one of two things,

1) Many were smart and bailed just in case the scenario that played out happened. They could be anywhere to the SE and be fine but would be having a hard time getting back to their homes (or whats left of them)

2) They just didnt think they needed to split as the projected path was supposed to hit over 60 miles to the North...it didnt. And in this case....very very bad news.

I will admit, I haven't been following this closely and my original comment definetely came off with a lack of sensitivity for those affected. So I appologize for that.

These natural disasters are very serious. This was a storm bordering on force 5 stature (not many ever recorded). Nothing to joke about. I've been trying to get through to people I know in the area, but lines are down everywhere ad that's made it difficult. Tampa got hit, but no where near as bad as Ft. Myers. There's a key that protects the Ft. Myers bay area, and that key is gone. The storm surge washed right over it. There are concerns that when the surge resides that it will not be there and that could affect the whole area (people and wild life). Houses on the water are gone. The place looks like a massive bomb went off. I pity those that had to go through the storm. While the property can be rebuilt, the emotional scars will be there for years. Every time a strong wind comes up these poor people will be freaking out.

My sister in Orlando has been told that it will be 5 days before they have power restored.

I just shake my head at you Jordon. Is it youth? A cold heart? A lack of understanding of what actually takes place in a natural disaster like this?

Telling Lanny to take his exlax was a nice 5th grade touch as well.

Dis and Lanny this is a bit ridiculous. I am normally the last to defend Jordan but all he made was a lighthearted comment towards a rival hockey teams stadium in the area of the hurricane. He didn't make fun of the victims or anything like that.

I would never, ever do that... It was a joke about the Lightning not about those affected by this natural disaster.

Should I have made the comment?? Probably not... but chances are I'd do it again, and not because I enjoy what's happening in Florida, I truly feel for those who have lost their lives and homes... but because I will always hate the Tampa Bay Lighting, and I will not get over the loss... EVER.

I have a problem with the insensitivity that was displayed. I'm not the only one.

Jordon apologized, so it's over with.
