Any good recent novels?

I just finished reading Nick Hornby's A Long way Down, The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss and God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens, and looking for something new to read, hopefully something new from the last year so I can discuss with my friends. Any recommendations?

The Blind Side by Michael Lewis was really good, his books are pretty easy read and he's a fantastic writer, since reading Moneyball I've ready nearly every one of his books.

I just finished Blind Side two nights ago and enjoyed it.

The only other Micheal Lewis book I've read is Moneyball (I bought Blind Side based on the fact that I loved Moneyball). What other Micheal Lewis books would you suggest?

"The Gum Thief" by Douglas Coupland is really good if you have the patience to sift through the kind of complex narrative structure.

It's got lots of stuff you'd expect to find on the Calgarypuck off-topic board: discussions of western identity and alienation, epistemology, and the occasional reference to Willie Plett. Though as the author, I'm somewhat biased in recommending it.

Well I picked up Liar's Poker (which is about 80s wall street) since then I've become fascinated with 80s wall street culture. Liar's Poker is probably his best book besides The Blind Side (which I thought was better than moneyball).

I'm not sure when The Kite Runner came out, but it's now a movie, so it's fairly relevant to present times. Check that out if you so desire.

i read the kite runner and just saw the movie the other night. the movie is well done as is the book. truthfully though...i hated the protaganist more than I have ever done in a story. but its a good story nonetheless.

two books that i have read recently that i thought were great were "mavericks at work" (although its non-fiction) and "wikinomics" (also non fiction).

i'm currently working my way through the potentially last ian rankine novel about inspector rebus "Exit Music". i have read the rest so its a known space for me. having lived in edinburgh to go to school...its great to know where everything is.

i would be wrong to not also mention the darwin awards books...the one that i recently finished was #4...intelligent design.

Got this one for xmas, loved Jpod and I work at Staples so my mom thought I'd appreciate it, haven't had time to crack it open yet.

Didn't read the book, but I saw The Kite Runner the other night and thought it was terrific: just a warning for those who dislike subtitles though, they are rampant as most of the dialogue is in Farsi.

I didn't put these books in any order, and I don't proclaim they are actually good books or not, I just listed them if I liked them or not.

I always wanted to join/start a bookclub but focus on books that someone like me would like to read- does anyone know how I could go about this sort of thing? I am in my mid-20s and am I guy, so I don't want to join anything that is for middle aged women, or retired folks, etc.

Almost done reading Bank by David Bledin and it's just awesome. I'm thinking of going into investment banking so it was really interesting for me but even if you weren't interested in investment banking it's still a good read.

I received The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Anyone read it? Good read or no?

Read it and LOVED it. Right up my alley. It's a very thought provoking book on time travel as well as emotionally pulling.

I'd be interested in a book club as well.
