Default Electronics prices in the States

I always thought they were cheaper, so when the missus and I were in California a few weeks ago we went to Best Buy for a few items. We had previously priced the items out at BB here. The prices were identical, right to the penny. Even though the loonie was above par at the time, we didn't buy anything. What have others discovered about electronics prices in the States? Are they cheaper at other stores and does Best Buy make sure prices are identical in both countries? We'll be in Florida in March and would be interested in knowing this as I may want to buy a video camera.

Online is way cheaper than best buy in almost all cases. Especially since we don't usually pay sales tax online. For instance, a TV I was just looking at is $1600 incl shipping at a reputable online store vs $2500 on sale at best buy plus sales tax.

Oddly enough I just made my first on-line purchase at bestbuy.ca. Bought some Bose earbud headphones.

Where do you shop on-line for e-stuff? I'm looking for a video camera. Where should I be shopping for this?

Electronics are so much cheaper online, as opposed to Best Buy/Future Shop. But also, if you go to a place like Fry's down in the States, I'm sure you'd see a price difference.

well to each his own .. but $200 for jeans is just as nuts!

Old Navy sells jeans for less than $50.00. What do $200 jeans do that $50 jeans dont?

Electronics are a very low-margin fast moving commodity. Electronic prices worldwide are almost all identical with flucations adjusting to different economies very quickly. It's not like clothing, books, etc. where the pricing can be more subjective.

Big ticket items which move slower and on which there is higher markup (big screen TVs) are probably your best bet for cheaper electronics.

Clothes are way cheaper in the states.
I was just in Vegas and stocked up. Got 2 pairs of Rock & Republics for $160 each. My friend bought one of the same ones in Van for $350. Got Boss dress shirts for $55, Emporio Armani watch for $130 and much more.
The prices down there (Especially at outlets) were amazing!!!

Actually, even Fry's isn't very different from what I saw when I was down there in Oct... prices were almost exactly the same as they were up here at the time.

I remember because I was looking for some computer parts and a HDDVD player.

Yeah, I'm also curious about how to get online electronics from the states. Everything I have ever tried to buy from Amazon.com, I was not allowed to, for reasons that were never explainable from the actual help desk.

Kind of stupid that they have a paying customer willing to buy right then and there, but they won't do it, "just because".
