Exactly. Overrated by whom. By a bunch of media bozos who are basically clueless or just out to promote anyway. Take the player in question and ask yourself how many teams would leap if the guy was available tommorrow on the open market. Some names on here would immediately drop off the list a great many GM's would be falling all over themselves to sign them.

As bad as the Chargers were for those years, they sure were able to take a couple high draft picks (Manning and the pick eventually used for Vick) and turned them into gold. Perhaps they learned something from the Leaf fiasco.

I thought it was very arrogant at the time. Maybe Peyton didn't enjoy his time at the beginning of his carrer with the lowly Colts. What first pick overall isn't going to a rebuilding franchise? I mean there are perrenial cellar dwellers like the Cards and Bengals (before Marvin Lewis) that most players probably would not want to play for. But the Chargers were not allways in the toilet. Every time I hear the media bashing Eli, I just think he asked for it.

x2. He asked to be in that media fishbowl, and he got it. Careful what you wish for.

I dont like "Sheli" at all. If a class guy like Ladainian Tomlinson can play for san diego when they suck, who is Eli? that was the best thing that happended to San diego....

You really don't have to give him a feminine nickname. His real name is actually Elisha.

No kidding, San Diego made a killing off this deal. In return the Chargers got the fourth over-all pick that year(where they took Rivers) and also a third round pick that same year(Kaeding). They also received the Giants 1st round pick the next year(Shawne Merriman), and a 5th round pick, which they traded to Tampa Bay for LT Roman Oben. That trade paid off HUGE for the Chargers, and as of now has to be considered one of the most one-sided trades in recent NFL history when you consider the players San Diego picked up with those picks.

How about the deal the Chargers made to trade off the Michael Vick selection where they ended up with LT, Tim Dwight and a couple other pieces. Instead of having the biggest felon and most hated man in the NFL who's about to go to jail....they have one of the most respected guys in the entire league.

Its safe to say the Chargers have done very well trading away the first pick overall. I bet the 9ers wished they would have traded away the Alex Smith pick for a football player.

Absolutely. Then again, they needed a franchise QB so they picked one. Nothing wrong with that. But Shaun Hill winning a couple games should create a good competition for next training camp (as well as dropping the Pats first round pick out of the top 5).

Not to mention he's also one of the greatest RB's in NFL history.

There has been talk the 49ers might cut Alex Smith loose after the season. no wonder some franchises continually suck every year... then to trade your pick to new england, brutal management.

most overrated person in the NFL may have been Brian Billick.
With his canning today I believe he is the first SB winning coach to be fired.

I think the statement of Westbrook being underrated is very overrated. What are people expecting? An MVP trophy? Fantasy players have been well aware of his value for years. Any NFL football fan knows full well who he is and what he can do. And to top it all off. Todd McFarlane imortilized him in plastic this season. They don't make Sports Pick figures of you if you suck. Unless your Alex Smith of course.
(don't take it personal Bobblehead).
