Default Computer Help Thread

That thread is chock full of useful information, but it's become insanely cumbersome to navigate and read in.

Between it and the Home Electronics/AV one, is there enough of a reason to break them into a sub-forum in off-topic?

I know the general rule is to avoid a lot of sub-forums, but in this case I think we could all benefit from one dedicated to tech help.

I'm sure it's been said before, but I thought I'd toss the idea out there anyways.

I agree with you. That all being in one thread is quite tedious to go through.

I think that it would be nice if computer problems could just be posted individually in the Off Topic forum.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this; one way or another?

There are some pluses and minuses both ways; and I think I speak for the rest of the mods when I say we'd like to hear some additional input.

I think that having a separate forum would be a good idea. It's must easier to track an individual topic in one thread, but also easier to look for info later on (and prevent the same question from being asked again).

Separate forum would be better.

Using the search button to find a computer problem/solution always takes you to the everlasting thread.

What about a general technology forum? A forum dedicated for computer help, PC games, video game consoles, HDTV, satellite, GPS etc.

I'd be happy if the tech forum also took all the tv, movie and videogame threads with it.

Bingo! I'm with Azure on this one.

I would definitely put the videogame threads in that forum. Not sure about tv and movies, maybe.

We've discussed it a bit.. the only problem is that it's one more place for threads and if there's not enough traffic it sometimes actually reduces the amount of discussion rather than increases it.

But I guess we can give it a try and see how it goes, and if it doesn't do well we can always fold it back into OT.

I think it would make a great sub-forum. I agree that finding what you need in there is very cumbersome.

I think its been successful.

A lot of people have been asking questions and getting resolutions fairly quickly. More so than the computer help thread.

Yeah. I didn't know if there would be enough activity, but with most of the tech topics going there, it had made it active enough no to forget about.

Yeah, hopefully it keeps up with that much activity.. if it doesn't we could always fold media into it too, stuff like movies and such.
