I am a HUGE Christian Bale fan, and I'm counting down the seconds until The Dark Knight comes out.

I haven't been so impressed with a comic book character-to-movie transition than I have been with Batman Begins. It's one of my favourite movies, if not my favourite one.

What I hope, though, in the Dark Knight is that no matter how awesome Heath Ledger's character is going to be, they need to keep the focus on the protagonist and his personal evolution into the character that he is. This is what was done in Batman Begins, which made Bale's character ridiculously cool. I hope they don't stray away from that element of what has thus far made this series great. I have faith in Christopher Nolan tio realize this.

That trailer is awesome! I am also very glad that they didn't bring Katie Holmes back, she almost ruined the first one for me. Everytime they showed her, I thought of Tom Cruise. So annoying.

haha too funny. I think Dark Knight is going to be 10 times better then Batman Begins just because Holmes isn't in it.

Too bad they can't have batman fight superman to the death like in the Dark Knight GN. Whatever happened to the World's Finest film?

The interesting thing about the original joker and the Jack Joker was that they didn't have to go out of the way to make him look crazy or like a psycho. He just was. You knew that the craziness was underneath that green or purple suit, and that white face paint with the big smile. Sure he fell in a vat of acid that made his smile, but everything was inside. It was subtle by frightening.

With this one, with the scared face, the messy hair, the sloppy makeup the dirty clothes, its like, look at me, I'm a homicidal maniac that laughs. Its like being punched in the face with the craziness. Its not subtle or classical.

I think thats the idea though. They're trying to make the Joker looks more "real" to what he'd probably look like, which is what I really like about this version of the Batman series. Instead of the perfectly white face and green lips, with the nicely pressed purple suit, its more what you'd expect someone who was dropped in a vat of chemicals to look like(besides the fact theyd probably be dead, but we're talkin Hollywood here haha): scarred face, a couple boils on it, bad discolouation. And the messed up suit works well too.

I can't wait for this to come out!! I'm not big on all these superhero movies, but I loved this one!

In all seriousness Batman Begins is my favorite super hero movie, so I'm very excited for this. I think the casting has been perfect and I applaud the writers for not trying to overload the story with villains. I haven't seen a superhero movie with more than 2 villains not blow hard.

I am also obsessed with Christian Bale movies, but especially those directed by the hugely under-appreciated Christopher Nolan. As for this latest offering, just...wow. This movie cannot begin soon enough.

BTW: I read American Psycho on the way home from Manchester last spring, and felt that the movie—while substantially less explicit—was a masterful cinematic interpretation. Generally speaking, movie adaptations of novels are abysmal failures, save for the following exceptions:

· Carl Sagan's Contact
· Brett Easton Ellis's American Psycho
· J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings Trilogy

A little off-topic:

We rented the third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean for the kids over the weekend. This is quite possibly the worst movie ever made. The horrible pain I suffered while watching it was only exacerbated while watching one of my favourite movies of all time on APTN last night: At Play in the Fields of the Lord.

Batman has been my favorite superhero ever since I read Frank Miller's classic "The Dark Knight Returns" when I was 10 years old. The things I always appreciated about Miller's take on Batman was that he rescued the Caped Crusader from the dimwitted cariciture perpetuated by stupid Adam West and turned him into the gritty, die-hard character he needed to become. With that said, I think the new movie quite obviously references Miller's work in its title, and I think Heath Ledger's Joker stylistically captures the Joker as portrayed by Miller. Nicholson's Joker was brilliant, but a different animal from Ledger's altogether.

• It's Sir Michael Caine's opinion that Heath Ledger beat the odds and topped Jack Nicholson's Joker from Batman (1989): "Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath's gone in a completely different direction to Jack, he's like a really scary psychopath. He's a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture." Caine bases this belief on a scene where the Joker pays a visit to Wayne Manor. He'd never met Ledger before, so when Ledger arrived and performed he gave Caine such a fright he forgot his lines.

Joker is all about the show. He loves to perform, if somebody gets hurt, or even dies, on with the show!

He kills at the drop of a hat, but not to kill, he doesn't gain pleasure from killing, he gains pleasure from watching the reactions to his "show". That is why he is truly twisted, and that is where the whole Adam West 12342342 different ways to try and kill Batman came from. The Joker would try to find the most messed up ways possible to kill people, and see if the Batman could save them as part of his performance.

It seems to me that maybe Ledger can get back to this and play the Joker the way he is meant to be played.

I also hope that they explore the mental capacitiy of Batman, the second smartest man in the world, instead of his elite ninja capabilities that you see maybe once every three comics.


However if you totally ignore the comics and look at Batman Begins as a clean slate, they did a great job with the character and really made it Hollywood friendly. I enjoyed the movie from a non-comic related point of view.

The people who liked Jack's Joker just aren't Batman comic book fans. This Joker looks much more like the comic book version. That is a character who is a true homicidal maniac. An evil freak who is completely illogical and unpredictable.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Heath's Joker is really dark and sinister, but it's not like Jack played him like a clown. There were a couple scenes where Jack was pretty damn sadistic. Although the best scene in the 1989 Batman was when Jack Napier as a young man(not played by Nicholson) takes out Bruce Wayne's family. That is truly a creepy scene.
