Saw the trailer for it last night before I Am Legend. Looks great, and I despise super hero movies. I like Batman Begins alot though.

Batman isn't really a superhero. I hate the Spiderman, Superman movies but Batman is more real than those, if that makes sense.
edit:
Man that trailer was amazing.

oh man, looks like Ledger absolutely nailed the Joker. you can't really say it's better or worse than Nicholson's version because they're two different styles, but i think Ledger will be just as good in his role as Jack was with his

That looks awesome. I never read comic books, and the first and only Batman movie I've seen is the last one.

I wonder if they'll give Christian Bale the Tobey Maguire treatment for this new series. That'd be fine by me. Love that dude. And Heath's not looking to be a shabby bit of casting either. What's up with Hollywood not being able to find good looking broads who can also act though? Between she-cruise, Kirsten Dunst, and Maggie G, there really ain't a bonafide hottie in the bunch. Kudos to Maggie for being able to act though. That's a start.

I don't know if I'm a big fan of the new joker.
The interesting thing about the original joker and the Jack Joker was that they didn't have to go out of the way to make him look crazy or like a psycho. He just was. You knew that the craziness was underneath that green or purple suit, and that white face paint with the big smile. Sure he fell in a vat of acid that made his smile, but everything was inside. It was subtle by frightening.
With this one, with the scared face, the messy hair, the sloppy makeup the dirty clothes, its like, look at me, I'm a homicidal maniac that laughs. Its like being punched in the face with the craziness. Its not subtle or classical.
I'll have to see the movie. but this looks like its going down the path of the other batman sequels. Over the top obvious villains and gadgets.

Batman isn't a powered super hero, but he is supposedly the greatest detective mind in comicdome. That makes him pretty super.
His ability to invent is on the Tony Stark level too which would make him also pretty super.
I see your point, there have been some real stinker comic movies. Any of the original Batman movies after the first and excluding the last were just awful. The one with Clooney was one of the worst movies ever made let alone genre pieces. But there've been some good ones too. X-Men and the second one were competent. The first Batman with Keaton, Spiderman wasn't bad at all.

I have to disagree on your assessment of the Joker and how hes portrayed in the new Batman.
I think the thing I like about it the best is how real it is.
Batman was the hero with no powers, he does everything through his own force of will and ingenuity. He lives in a dark and horrible place, both figuratively and actually.
The old Joker and even Jack's Joker were a little hammy, and I think the thing about the last Batman movie that attracted me particularly was the attention to the fact that this is a horrible place where bad things happen and one guy's had it.
Hes not perfect, in fact, I liked later Batman comics where he actually gets nasty and starts hurting people.
I think this Batman film is going to be stellar. I still love watching the last one.
That being said though, its not tough to compete with:
Batman & Robin or Batman Forever. Weak.

Wow. That looked great. I like Maggie Gyllenhaal so I am really pleased they have her in there instead of Holmes. She was the one major negative I had with Batman Begins. I just couldn't stand her.
I sincerely love Christian Bale, he's one of my absolute favourite actors out there, has been for years. I hope more people start giving him his dues.
I questioned Heath Ledger when I heard he was going to be playing the Joker, but it looks like he's pulled it off.
Is Morgan Freeman in this one again, or no?
EDIT: Yep, I missed him with the first viewing

Batman Begins is one of my favorite comic/graphic novel to movie translations. I thought the first Batman movie would end up being the best in the series ... wow was I wrong. I really look forward to seeing The Dark Knight, and think that the name(the first time in the Batman films that "Batman" hasn't been used in the title) is very fitting, as it seems much darker than the other films.

I agree ... he's also been a favorite actor of mine. After seeing him in Equilibrium, I told several people that he was going to be a big-budget action star some day. American Psycho is also a great job of acting.

Joker looks amazing. Such an improvement over the Jack Nicholson debacle.
The people who liked Jack's Joker just aren't Batman comic book fans. This Joker looks much more like the comic book version. That is a character who is a true homicidal maniac. An evil freak who is completely illogical and unpredictable.

The cool(if you call it that) thing about The Machinist is that Bale ate 250 calories for a few months in order to get down to a mere 140 lbs.
Right after filming was done, he had a certain amount of time to get back to 200 lbs and start filming Batman Begins.
I saw him in both films...and what he did is simply impressive.

Yeah, he was fantastic in that movie, he was so good it was actually uncomfortable to watch at points.

Equilibrium is a pretty good movie, as was American Psycho. I will always love him in a little known British movie, called, "All the Little Animals." The movies premise is entirely depressing, but he was really good in it. And of course, his performance in Empire of the Sun was also exceptional, and he was so young at the time. Truly an impressive actor.

I actually didn't like American Psycho when I saw it, but I thought his part was played very well. A friend of mine that read the book said he brought Patrick Bateman to life perfectly.
On a side note, I saw it without knowing what it was about the first time. Boy, that was an uncomfortable first date.
