Yearly Awards?
In my random thinking earlier I got thinking about some of the classic threads that I've read since I joined here, and about some of the regulars and what not. This got me thinking about if CP ever does its own version of the NHL awards. Just a joke kinda thing, kinda like how my hockey team did it this last season (proud winner of the Selke by the way)
It got me thinking about each award and what it could translate to. Examples
Hart/MVP = Top Poster
Calder = Top Newcomer
Art Ross = Most posts, or most per day average
Jack Adams = Top Mod
Lady Byng = Popularity contest
and then toss in a couple for Funniest, best sig, and so on and so on.
So if there isn't something like this in place is there any thoughts on who should get what?

I think this would be neat. You could open nominations one day, and then the next day every member could vote on their choice... but it could be a secret vote. Then we could have a CP summit and give the winners their prizes, a couple weeks after the voting.
Sometimes I wish I was a mod, so I could organize this cool stuff.

We do have the CP Hall of Fame. Its a tough HOF to get into though. You almost gotta kill somebody. (Note, its not my fault that KevanGuy hasnt been around in a while....  )
The awards idea is pretty funny, but I think you'd be surprised about how seriously some people take joke awards.
There was enormous controversy over the Millionth post Winnar award (congrats Flylock Shox you theiving jerk) which raged on for seemed an eternity.
I for one welcome our......awards masters

I don't know if prizes would be a good idea as we have people all over the place here. But hey, if the mods wanted to thats cool by me

But what if you hurt someones feelings? You would have to start giving out "participant" awards so that no one feels left out.

While I like the idea, here's the problem. It's over a full year. There are SOOOO many posters, how is anyone going to keep track?
Do you go for consistency over the year, or vote on pure gold? There are people that focus more on one board than another. What if the funniest poster normally posts in the CPHL? Will they get the award they deserve?
Is it a joke award? Yeah. But I'll be dammed if I get cheated out of any award, especially the joke ones! 
Seriously, I think it'd be a cool idea to nominate people over the course of the rest of December, then give out the awards in the beginning of January.

I'm thinking in that case the Wales Trophy goes to The Off Topic Forum, and the Cambells Cup goes to the Fire on Ice Forum! Haha, obvious issues with people who go across both....maybe the Presidents trophy?
And one other award I thought of is most memorable post of the year, and then give credit to whoever started the top thread of the year, which IMO is either the Official New Jersey thread, or LOLCats thread

If you search the site or google the Calgarypuck "Get A Life Awards," you'd probably find a story link to the original. Or go to the story index. I think that was 2002.
