Were these the new Brava highrise condos?
Unfortuantely, the larger the parkade, the higher the likelyhood someone won't wait for the garage door to close, or buzz someone in. Access needs to be restricted going into the parkade from the lobby and rapid roll doors use.

That's the one, Hulse. Do you live here too? I'd check your car. I know there are a few cars where the owners live out of town, not even in the building. They're going to be pissed.

Golf clubs have a good foot and a half on a crow bar. Just one driver in the face should have done it i think.

That was the intention. One swing of a gold club to the legs, which is more effective than a crowbar swing, can end somebody's knee for life.
It's nice when you can find new or alternative uses for existing items. Very environmental.

The graphite shaft on driver or iron will snap easy, but providing it snaps at the head of the club you'll have a great lightweight fencing saber complete with jagged tip capable of great damage, like coring a hole through a lung.
5 iron would be my weapon of choice I think, steel shafts.

No, I don't live there, but unfortunately, having been prez of the Board for 5 years, I'm all too familar with your plight, including the fun of finding now glass (Kings Glass was awesome) Do you guys have camera footage? Don't focus on catching the guy, but focus on how the bunghole got in. Did he follow someone in the front door? Did he zip in after a car? Focus on preventing the next time, not getting stuff back.
PS don't smoke in common areas - fire alarms for those areas will trigger a building wide evac alarm. Crackheads who got a hold of a lost fob for our building taught me that lesson...

Must be a day for crime. I've lived in Calgary all my life and I've never come across someone getting arrested. That changed today...
On my way from my eye doctor on 16th Ave NW, cops were raiding a motel room at the Red Carpet Inn (I think that is the name?). I stopped for a pedestrian and saw cops breaking down a door with their guns drawn.
I continued my drive east on 16th Ave and cops had pulled over a car just past SAIT. Traffic was going really slow, so I look over and three guys were standing at the side of the road with cops in handcuffs while another one was being searched.
Crazy.

Yeah, there was camera footage of them entering, doing the break-ins, and us confronting them. It's all documented, we got a good visual on the whole thing. They walked right through the front door, for some reason it was unlocked, as they didn't even touch the keyless pad. I was shocked to see it was that easy to get in, especially in a new building like this. The security guard said though, that it's quite easy to get into a building like this with so many entry points, locks or no locks.
Well I won't smoke down there anymore, but we didn't go for a smoke, that number could have easily been 100 cars and not 32.

Ironically, I did some research on how to prevent things like this. Developers in Toronto and Vancouver have addressed this issue by much the same way you speak of. The key is to get residents down there - activity scares people off. They try and encourage people to be down there so they put things like car washes and what now down there. A smoking room would be a great idea. I actually saw places in Vancouver that had separate garages INSIDE the main parkade.
If I ever buy an apartment condo again, I'll be looking for a place with floor by floor proximity card access. If you don't live on a floor, you don't have access to that floor, and the elevator doesn't move. All fire stairwells locked from the stairwell side so that if someone gets in, the can only get out. Parkade access restricted by key card. Cameras everywhere. Also key would be full time security guard / concierge doing sweeps to ensure doors aren't propped open. Basically the same security an office tower has.
Might sound like a bit overkill and cost more in fees, but it'll be a much better living experience.

Now there's something you don't see too often. Usually it's the motorists who are cuffed, not the cops.
I guess they have to restrain their own hands, to ensure they don't get too taser happy.

This summer, I was in Calgary for...I think it was my brother's hockey tournament. Anyways, we're driving to the rink the one day, and there's this lady tailgating another. So they go back and forth flipping eachother the bird and whatnot. Then at a light, the one lady gets out of her car, walks up to the other one, and just starts screaming and cursing. It was hilarious.
Then, on the way back from the rink the same day (I think it might have been the same corner actually) there were like 3 police cars and a couple cop motorbikes...they had this big cube van pulled over, half way on the curb, and they were all buzzing around it. I still like to think it was a drug bust...
Anyways, that's my Calgary crime story...I thought that was cool, coming from the nearest city reports when the cops are called to take a drunk to the tank...
