Default FSM fights for "Intelligent Falling" vs Theory of Gravity.

It is a fight we must partake, bless his noodly appendage.

Time we fight against this "theory" of gravity!

Ironically, the "theory" of gravity has less tangible evidence than the theory of evolution (in terms of describing the mechanisms by which the processes occur).

I for one welcome our new flying spaghetti monster overlord.

Could I get some garlic bread with that?

We can observe gravity, but there is no scientific method of verifying the mechanism that causes the effect.

At least, not yet.

Disclaimer: I'm about eight or nine years removed from learning about this (I was a physics minor at university), but IIRC Einstein's theory of general relativity showed that massive objects distort the shape of space-time creating a gravity well, causing objects to "fall" into the well. Objects with larger mass create a deeper well.

A Google search found the below image, which shows this idea quite well.

Admit it guys, you are only in it for the beer and the stripper factory.

I recently married a Pastafarian; though he has yet to convert me.

Now if he wants to start dressing up as a pirate....

The theory of gravity is not well understood at the moment. Attractive forces between objects with mass have been theorized and equations have been developed to show this, but as said before, its the mechanics behind gravity that is unknown. Theories like string theory, and the new E8 theory can potentially explain gravity, but they aren't widely accepted and don't have conclusive evidence to support them at the moment. The problem with visualizing gravity as objects sinking into time to cause gravity 'dimples' is it would require some sort of force for mass to sink into time, putting us back at square 1.
