				 Van Halen Tonight

Anyone else jacked up to see these guys tonight at the 'Dome? I've been waiting 24yrs for this concert. Been getting good reviews up to this point. Hope they don't disappoint.

I was looking forward to it for months until I saw the ticket price, that combined with the stupid Wolfgang kid on Bass killed it for me.
But I broke down 2 days ago when I was playing around on Ticketmaster and pulled up tickets on the floor, 20th row. I guess if you're going to get swindled might as well have decent seats, I wouldn't pay that price to sit up in the 200s.

I've seen DLR doing his solo show and he was great, crazy old man muppet. But I've never seen Van Halen before, hated that cheeseball Hagar.

I bought my tickets the first day they went on sale. I had to buy four in a row. All I could get was 200's(and they were all full price). |

Saw them in 1990 and they blew chunks. Eddie was drunk, Sammy lost his voice 2 songs in. Brutal. Saw Dave 4 years ago and he was pretty good. So now that Ed is sober, I'm going to give them another chance. Hope it's great, as I, too have waited 20+ years for this one.

I just checked out some videos, Ed looks completely different. Wow. Too bad I have zero friends that are Van Halen fans or I might've gone.
Are they only playing Roth era music? I haven't seen any Haggar era songs. I'd have to say I have more Haggar era song favorites than Roth era ones.

Seems Hagar and Michael Anthony are permantely ostrasized from the band, with Hager retaining the rights to perform with most of his era material.

Geez, we certainly have some auspiciously snobby Van Halen I elitists in here. Van Halen has a lot of fans who like everything from the classic riffs to more poppy stuff like Jump, Dance the Night Away, "sappy" Hagar era power ballads and god forbid...even 90's Gary Cherone output. Remind me never to come into this thread again. Guess this concert isn't for me.

don't get your knickers in a twist. Hagar has some good tunes, I just can't stand the sappy synthesizer crap.

For me, VH was a lot better with Hagar. Stronger vocals, and the atmosphere around the band in that era seemed to be more fun. Classic era VH with DLR wasn't awful, but DLR seemed to make the band about him.
Also, a teenager taking Michael Anthony's place? No thanks. I saw VH when they were here three years ago with Hagar and Anthony and it was fantastic.

Still, I hope everyone who goes tonight has a great time. Watch out for the second-hand pot smoke.

Hack&Lube, are you a younger guy?
I find that alot of people who got into Van Halen during the Hager era have no idea how great they were with Roth and therefore can't really hear Hager for the cheeseball ###### he was.

And the Cherone album is a complete sonic abortion, horrible songs throughout except for the chorus of "Without You". I'm actually a huge fan of Extreme, have all their albums and have no problem with Cherone, that album was just horrid.

I used to be a big Van Halen fan, I got into them right from the beginning, and right through the Van Hagar era, and then dropped them after that.
They were more of a party sounding band with Diamond Dave. They were far better musically and vocally with Hagar, and I didn't listen to them with Cherone.

Not to much interest in seeing the Van Halen two featuring the fat kid on bass.

I'm pretty much like you. I kind of lost interest when they turned into a bunch of monkeys throwing feces at each other.

I remember a guy in shop class wandering around quoting "Jump" lyrics when 1984 was first released.

I saw them twice with Sammy, both great shows. Alex has a cottage in Ontario and the band would stay there for a couple days then stop in for the show.
