Default We are the world's cleanest city!!!

That should make you smile. Found it while I was looking at the world's leading drinkers thread. Maybe because everyone is hiding inside when its f*&#ing freezing outside so we dont have a chance to pollute our city. Anyways, made my night.

Not to poop on the parade here, but how can a city without a recycling program be considered the world's cleanest? Not to mention the miriad of problems associated with Calgary Transit.

Must say, I was shocked to read this.

One more comment, Metro Area: 5,107 square kms? That is friggin huge compared to the other cities. What are the boundaries for metro calgary?

After living on the corner of 7th Ave. and 9th St. SW, I will never be convinced that Calgary is the cleanest city.

Yeah, cause you'll definitely never find shady areas of town in other cities.

When Toronto makes it up to the top 25, u know this list is pretty messed. Toronto shouldn't even be remotely close.

Maybe the list should have been called "Least Disgusting Cities"....

Never been to the US apparently. One side of a street: mansions, the other side: ghetto.

Well, whenever I have guests from out of country, even out of province, they always marvel and comment on the cleanliness of Calgary. And if you listen to interviews of out of towners who have come here during Stampede week, that is always one of the first things they say about Calgary as well.

I worked with a Russian who was on assignment here. She was in awe of how "clean" this city was, she actually thought we scrubbed our sidewalks.

If you've never travelled to foreign cities, particularly hot ones, you probably can't see the big deal as to why Calgary gets labelled clean. Go to Naples, Italy for a great example of garbage everywhere.

You haven't travelled much obviously! Vancouver is prime example of slums right next to a beautiful area. Miami is like this as well. Most large american cities have tremendous contradictions like this. Million dollar homes, next to a slum. Considering the size of Calgary, it is amazingly clean, and it has been getting dirtier over the last few years.

All you have to do is drive up to Edmonton to see how clean Calgary is. When I was up there for the last BOA, there was garbage everywhere and it made me want to vomit. Combine that with wires above the roads everywhere for their electric busses, the whole city made me cringe.

We had friends from Dallas visiting last summer, and while driving along Deerfoot we saw a clean up crew picking up garbage. They honestly could not even fathom a local government paying for something like that. They then went on to tell me a story about a mattress that was lying on the side of the interstate by their place for well over a year.

I was really surprised as to how disgustingly dirty Rome was when I was there. Paris wasn't a walk in the park either. Poodle poo everywhere. I don't think there's any law against leaving dog doo behind there. Instead, they have ditches along the sidewalks that they occasionally flush with water to clean the crap.
