15.5 liters doesn't seem like that much does it? That's four 4L Milk jugs of alcohol in one year or one 4L Milk Jug of alcohol every 3 months.

Seems like they are totalling pure alcohol - so a 750 mL bottle of wine, with 11.5 % alcohol, only has 86.25 mL of alcohol.

once again, i highly doubt this, based on first hand accounts. All my immediate and extended family are euros, and Ive seen a great many of them drink more liquor (plum brandy, ie, slivovica being the favourite) than any on this side of the pond. It really is no contest...here people think tequilla is a strong drink.

To test this theory, I think calgarypuck needs to sponsor Aeneas and I for a European fact-finding mission.

I have a friend living over in Ireland right now.

Before she went over there, she had never drank a drop in her life (19 years old). Now, apparently, she is quite a drinker.

They drink like champions... absolutely no question.

However, North Americans "boast" a very conservative, puritanical streak that think drinking is wrong... or even evil. This not only waters down our drinking numbers, but it has also contributed to many poor and unhealthy drinking habits (ie: alcohol as a forbidden fruit v. a social drink, drunk driving, etc,).

I dont disagree. Personally, I think that raising drinking ages etc. makes drinking much more of a lure to kids out there, and when they do drink, they make absolutely asses of themselves because they have no concept of what it can do to them.

Like sex, kids would be much better off if it wasnt perceived as such a bad thing to do. Im not even sure when the first time I was handed a drink...a wine here, a sip of beer there, and by the time i was a teen, drinking was really not a big deal. Im not going to say I never made an ass out of myself, but I sure could handle it more responsibly than the kids whose puritanical parents freaked out and tried to shield their kids for as long as possible.

Totally agreed... I shake my head at the US for 21, and get disgusted every time I hear some yokel suggest upping it to 19-21 in Alberta. Just a complete misunderstanding of the facts.

No not really. Ive drank in 12 of those counrties and really dont agree. Our mainstream beer in Canada sucks, but that is only like 6 big names.

Haha yep its oh so true. When I toured over in Europe 2 summers ago, I had a pact with my 2 other buddies that we would drink hard every single night for duration of the trip. One buddy only made it 12 days, but the two of us lasted 37 days straight, and figured by the end of it we easily each spent $2000 just in liqour. Ohh good times!

Me too ... you need an old guy to be a chaperone. I'm a good "distance" drinker too ... meaning others might be ahead of me after three hours, but after 12 or 18 hours I'll have blown their doors off.

Ahh....you're a marathon drinker are you? The real question is....how do you handle the sprint to the finish line?

Alright guys, why isn't Canada #1?

I do believe Halifax Drunk and I are pulling out weight here (hell maybe even drinking for 3 or 4 people). What are the rest of you doing?

If you're not at a computer drinking a beer right now, you're hurting our country.

Make us #1, Make us proud, if you don't know how, come visit us out east

When you're the last man standing you can pretty much handle it however you like. I usually flip on some of my favourite "pissed out of my gourd" music and kick back with two or three victory beers and a couple victory cigars.

I'm reasonably certain that somebody would be Stage 3 pissed if I cracked a Brewski right in the middle of the packed Haskayne computer lab.

I'm sure that would constitute Academic Misconduct of some variety. Or even Non-Academic Misconduct, but Misconduct nonetheless.
