Default Giving your dog Glucoasmine

So, one of our dogs escaped our backyard this weekend and got hit by a car. She managed to walk away with only a few cuts/scrapes but also fractured all 4 "fingers" in her back right foot. It's in a splint right now and will be for the next two months or so.

What I am really wondering is if any of the amazing pet lovers on CP have fed their animals glucosamine for their joints. If so, do you feed them specialized pet stuff, or the human stuff.

Thanks!

My wife and I feed our Chihuahua glucosamine for his throat. Chihuahua's can have a problem with a collapsing trachea and his trachea is made out of the same cartilage as his joints. It keeps it strong and lubricated.

You should be feeding your pet a pet formula as far as I know. We get it from a place called The Barking Lot in Midnapore.

Never, but I do think a joint and a doggy wheelchair would be funny.

Not sure of the type used, but we fed our dog glucosamine for her bad knee, and she went from barely being able to walk on 3 legs, to running around doing normal dog stuff in a short while.

Glucosamine is available in a lot of the higher end dog foods. I always feed my dogs the kibble that has glucosamine as a supplement in it, from young up. We used to have a dog that was very arthritic in old age and the vet said it can not hurt. I gave the type in a more concentrated form to that dog, you find it in any drugstore, the one that had the chondrotin as well, not just the sulfate one.

Of course, the human tablet form you are going to have to trick your dog to get them to eat it. Piece of cheese or luncheon meat works like a darn))

We've used these guys for both glucosamine and flea & tick preventative.

We feed our dog Glucosamine that we get from the vet. It's a powder we dump on his food. Seems to really help him, a 11 year old retreiver lab.

Also, it's nice that he and I take the same medicine. Mine is a tablet though.

Our 12 year old Border Collie was having hip problems and was really laboring to get up after laying down also I had to lift her into my Jeep. A few weeks after we started giving her liquid glucosamine made for humans with her food she is like a puppy again and can leap into my Jeep no problem. The stuff has had an amazing affect on her, we've been giving it to her for over a year and she is like a totally different dog
