Defeated by weather

We left the house in Evergreen late at 6:10 am and I arrived at work at 6:40. So, the drive took us 5 minutes longer than usual. It is nice to have a wife who drives for a living.

Damn, this is just another reason why I'm glad I left Cowtown for Victoria... it's actually funny how we (Calgarians, I guess I'm an ex) complain about people driving like maroons in the shlt conditions. Here in Vic it seems to be the opposite - everyone is driving super slow and leaving a good amount of room and the roads aren't even that bad out after a minor snow fall.

All seasons on a Jeep... reminds me of riding with my friend in his Jeep with all seasons when he plowed down an unsuspecting stop sign. And the time he did a 180 trying to stop for a pedestrian.

My biggest pet peeve is the bandwagon bus riders that refuse to drive in weather like this, so they take public transit and effectively take away one less spot on the already over-crowded bus. Taking the 101 or the 104 this morning? Ridiculous. I had 7 buses pass me this morning before I was able to get onto one. I've been taking this bus everyday for a long time now, and it's just aggravating when I have to wait three times as long to get on one - especially in this weather.

Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if a) there were more buses, or b) people didn't live so frickin' far out of the city and instead lived in an area they could commute to work in a short distance.

So what explain the guy in front of me with BC plates who was doing about 20 km/hr and I caught him doing 35-40 km/hr while trying to order pizza....

That's sort of my point, if everyone would quit thinking they are such an awesome driver, and just because they don't get stuck they can stick with all seasons, days like today would be a lot better. Maybe traffic can safely go 50km/h instead of 30km/h. Maybe there would be less accidents from people not being able to stop on their all seasons and rear ending each other.

It's pretty hard to argue the other side of this one. If I take all the other idiots off the road my normally 20 minute commute would have maybe been 30 or 40 minutes, but all the other people who are too good of drivers to slow down and end up crashing, or improperly equipped and can't even get started at flat intersections, and you have me at almost 2 hours on the way to work today.

If you lock up your brakes, for sure you're going to slide.

You just described the Calgary driver attitude of i'm in a hurry to get somewhere fast. So what if the other guy has all seasons. If he/she is driving safe for the conditions that's all that matters. Leave earlier to avoid the rush if it bothers you that much.

People rear ending each other don't give themselves enough space between themselves and the other driver. It's not the fault of all season tires.

Its more about driver attitude.

I know I have All seasons....my choice.

I don't drive to fast for the conditions and I try to leave ample space between me and the car in front of me.

That is until someone sees that space as a prime spot to change lanes.

I am by no means the safest / best driver on the road, but I do adjust to and can handle the driving conditions I put myself in.




I bet if hulks buddy had winters on his jeep, he would have hit the stop sign at a faster rate of speed.

The problem that i find is people in 4x4s or some people who just got their winter tires on think they are invicible, they figure that they are immune to the slippery roads and drive like idiots. Just because you have 4 wheel drive or winter tires doesn't mean that you won't slide, yet people have a tough time figuring that out.

The worst is taking a bus from the burbs, in snow related traffic for like 2 hours before you even hit the main route to the city. The bus is all fogged up, people fart all the time, and it's made worse by the heater the driver has on plus the humidty from like 100 people on board.

I just got off the bus one time before school and walked 2kms home and went to bed.
