Defeated by weather
Arrrgh!
I live in McKenzie Towne and attempted to drive to work this morning. It took me about 45 minutes to go 2 blocks to the traffic circle, with deerfoot still far out of sight. Would have taken about another hour just to get there, then...who knows? 1 inch of snow has completely paralyzed the roads here. I decided I couldnt take it any longer and will try again in a couple hours when hopefully things clear out. I have been defeated by the snow...this sucks.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I think there is a big train stall in Ogden too, basically stopping Glenmore.

Took me an hour and a half to get to work this morning.
It amazes me that 1 inch of fluffly white snow, not even the heavy sticky stuff, can bring the city to a screeching halt. For gods sake, you can still see grass clearly through the snow.
With no exaggeration, once I hit got to Cranston on 22x I could not move faster than 10km all the way up Deerfoot and down Barlow until I was passed Glenmore.

Does not amaze me even in the slightest. On a dry day with perfect weather the traffic is snarled on a regular basis. There are simply way too many cars on the road and the transportation system isn't up to it. Acccidents galore. Then you add some slippery conditions which slows takeoffs from every intersection plus everyone is approaching those same intersections slowly afraid some idiot not driving for the conditions will ram them.
I go into super defensive mode when it snows. Look at the legion of dummies on the road who follow on your bumper, don't signal etc. etc. etc. They drive the same way in any conditions as they are more than obviously brain dead wonders.
There is no amazement -- you have to factor in the conditions and add the IDIOT quotient which adds up to a slow drive.

Live in Sun Alta. Took me 15 minutes to cross downtown and get to work. Anyone who can I would suggest 10th ave instead of 9th, 12th, or 17th. It was so empty that I saw like 2 cars going the opposite direction each block.

I live 10 blocks from my new job and it still took me 40 minutes to get there. The lady in front of me was terrified of making a left turn against Traffic and then skidded around down the street at about 5 kmh. Of course I finally get up beside her on a red light and was about to give her some advice about driving when I looked over at her and she was just in tears with the whole white knuckled 10 and 2 driving position.
If your too scared to drive in this weather, stay at home.

With weather like this it's almost better to walk even though it's damn cold outside, especially if you only live 10 blocks from work. That's what I've done and it has saved me a ton of headaches.

Yeah, that stall was at 52nd, and Glenmore East was a parking lot at least to Crowchild as a result. That alone really, really screwed up south Calgary.
Cranston to Kingsland in 1:30.

I'm actually amazed that there are people that drive 10 blocks to work.

Since I require my car for work since I attend meetings off site, don't be getting all up in my grill.

This always happens the first decent snowfall though. Too many donkeys like my neighboor who are bad drivers in the first place trying to get around on their summer tires ending up crawling up what is barely a hill at all wheels spinning at 100kph.
stupid people who can't driver + snow + pos car = stay home from work day, if for no other reason then my sanity, having to put up with the ######s and all.
Then the GF makes me drive her to work and i spend 1 and 1/2 hours driving from my house down to bowness and back a round trip which usually takes 30 minutes.
