Default Deal :2 for 1 Starbucks coupon in Bon Apetit magazine :-)

I was flipping through the December issue of Bon Appetit magazine, and I noticed a 2 for 1 Starbucks coupon in one of their ads. It's valid in Canada, so I took advantage of the deal with a friend today.

Considering that the magazine costs $5.50, and is chock full of good Christmas recipes, and a Starbucks drink can cost $4.50+, it's not a bad deal.
Assuming that you may buy Bon Appetit anyway.

I figured I'd post about it on CP.

You know what really pains me though? That the drink is 4.50+. But oh that delicious frap goodness, I cannot resist thee.

I'm pretty sure that Starbucks and Bon Appetit magazine are getting the better deal out of you than you out of them

Considering the mark up on starbucks drinks, they could afford to give away a drink if you'd encourage a non starbucks drinking friend to take your 2nd drink, therefore sampling their product. If you both were already starbucks drinkers, the coupon made you more compelled to go to a starbucks than you would without one.

As for the magazine, they already had you pay $5.50 to get the coupon. When you start flipping through the already purchased magazine, they have you again for taking a look at a magazine which you would normally would pass up on at the news stands.

and this deal excited you so much that you felt like you wanted the news with everyone and that pays more dividends for both companies than an expensive TV or poster ad

Starbucks and Bon Appetit wins
you lose approximately $10, and you still feel like you've taken advantage of a good deal

Your points are good, but I'm a regular Bon Appetit reader anyways. I am planning to subscribe, actually. For me, it's not too shabby.
