Everyone needs a scape goat, especially bad parents. That is completely shocking and scary at the same time. I know that the moral barometer is not as developed when you are that young but for three kids to sexually assault someone makes me scared to think of what kind of adults they will become.

I would not be at all surprised if it is revealed that one or more of the boys was abused themselves. I don't think a kid that age even thinks about things like that unless they have experience with it.
If not abused sexually, then probably suffering under a controlling household. Could also be a case of kids being curious, the girl resisting any further curiousity, and one or more of the boys enforcing his will becuase that is what he understands works.

In case you didn't notice, I was blaming it on the parents. Most parents don't monitoring what their kids watch, what they do, etc.
Denying that this has an impact on the kids though.... wow. Just shows how little exposure that you have to kids, or how little you are paying attention.

I have a 8 yr old son who I couldnt even imagine doing something like that ,he is more into the whole girls are yucky mentality .
The odds are pretty good if the boys actually did this, violence on tv or video games is a very small part ,my boys play Call of Duty 3 and Halo 3 and dont show much more agressive behavior than the kids down the street who dont even have a TV .I would bet that there is some physical or sexual abuse involved here.

8 year old boys have a non-existant sex drive, most don't know what sex is or what parts are even involved. I have an extremely hard time believing they raped a girl. If I were to guess, I'd say the 11 year old girl had a lot more to do with this than she's letting on. Girls hit puberty around ages 11-13...this sounds like a young girl showing off her new body to the young boys that have never seen anything like it. And if thats the case, obviously there will be touching as I'm sure they're curious, not RAPE though....thats a sick word used to describe an 8 year olds actions. Sounds to me like the girl was playing show and tell, and got caught. Rather than telling the embarrassing truth, she said they forced her to do it...
When I was 8, an 11 year old girl could've beat the crap out of me. I couldn't make her do anything, and I wouldn't have wanted her to do anything either. I was 8.

If this is true, I bet that if you dug far enough, you would find that these boys were also abused at some point.

I don't believe eight year olds should be playing either of those games. CoD3 is rated Teen (13+) while Halo 3 is rated Mature (17+). FYI in case you are getting CoD4 for Xmas, it is also rated Mature (17+). There is a reason for those ratings as these are very violent games, with pretty course language. And that is just the GAME, let alone you go online and play others, whereby the filth that is spewed is pretty brutal.
Not sure why you think exposing your son to this is OK, but as a long time gamer I would not let my son/daughter play those at that age. You wouldn't take him to see Saw III or any other rated M movie, would you?

Something really doesn't add up. Even if the 8/9 year olds were exposed to porn or violence, it still doesn't mean they know what to do with it. To commit RAPE? I seriously doubt it.
Not to mention, when I was in grade 3/4, girls in grade 6 were at least foot taller than me and stronger and faster. This is a ridiculous allegation that's going to ruin these boys' lives.
Obviously if it ACTUALLY happened it'd be a different story, but just like in the Duke case, there seems to be a careless rush to accuse, before the whole story is even out there.

Just to parrot Shawnsky, those are some pretty violent games for any kid to be playing, never mind an 8 year old. Your kid might not be acting violently because of it, but it sure will desensitize him to violence pretty early (and I'm of the belief that violence is something that nobody should ever be comfortable with).

What if the boys themselves were molested or had witnessed a rape? When I was that age, I doubt the boys in my class would've raped anyone, but they certainly were curious about girls' reproductive parts. Perhaps it's a result of their upbringing.

1. I wasn't responding to your comments. But the inevitable blaming of these mediums.
2. Nor did I deny these factors have an impact.
But thanks for playing. And insulting me was a nice touch as well.

There is a very good possibility you are right on this. Way too many people are jumping to conclusions here. If you read the article it actually reaffirms your story as another very possible explanation. The article fails to mention any signs of physical violence on the girl. Believe it or not an 11 year old girl is, on average, much larger than an 8 year old boy. 3 of them would probably be able to overtake her, but probably not w/out signs of physical violence.
If you actually read the article through it says both sides are giving different explanations. The first being the rape, and the second being the show and tell type scenario. The media should really be a lot more cautious about their headlines. At least until a proper court of law has made a decision.

Something tells me that this isn't actually rape, but overzealous and overly ligitious parents charging two boys for playing doctor with their daughter, who was more than likely a willing participant if there were no signs of struggle.
Is this a Sodom and Gamorra case, or a sign of a knee-jerk, court-happy society going after something we normally shrug off as birds and bees and typical sexual education.
