Geeks gone wild: Star Trek home theater

This is pretty cool actually

Someone thought it would be a good idea to model their home theater after the Enterprise NCC-1701D from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The result is super geeky, but actually rather cool. Named the best theme theater installation at CEDIA 2007, this Palm Beach County, FL home features motion-activated air-lock doors with series sound effects, and a “Red Alert” button on the Crestron TPMC-10 controller to turn all of the LEDs bright red and flashing. The system also features “one of the largest Kaleidescape hard-drive based storage systems” ever created, amassing eight servers with 3,816 DVDs. Check out more photos after the jump.

Who hasn't thought that would be a good idea?

Although, I'd prefer the Original Kirk-era version (even though Picard's seats look more comfortable).

EDIT: Looking at the other view, the screen looks pretty small. It should cover the wall.

There's not much a girl won't do in a seat of the USS Enterprise...

Seriously though, that is a cool idea.

Its a good idea if you and your boys were all quasi Star Trek fans back in the day. Or at least you all feel some nostalgia for the good ole days when Picard could smarm his way through the already discovered portions of the galazy.

But if you bring someone new over to watch a game (I'm assuming this guy isn't married - so having a couple over for a movie isn't an option) onto the bridge of the Enterprise? Could be the only time. USS Red Flag, if you know what I mean.

I thought the screen was too small also. Should cover most of the wall imo.

That bar is pretty sweet....I wonder if they serve Romulan ale?

BTW, does anyone else think that black thing on the bar is a Darth Vader mask?

As nerdy as this is, it's also awesome. Would you want to watch the game there? I say hells yes! or a teleconference. That'd be intimidating for whoever is on the other end!

This just looks like the company's prototype, for which they've apparently won an industry award. How many installations have they sold? Who knows, but it's certainly garnered them publicity (which is also good for business).

Sorta how fashion designers get leggy supermodels to wear the most outrageous get-ups, only to turn around and sell a crapload of normal clothes with a fancy label. The market for upscale home theatres, naturally, is amongst tech geeks. Star Trek is a good hook.

Ohhh boy... when I get rich, I am SO going to top that! I love escaping into movies, but I can only imagine how good it would be to escape into the Enterprise itself before I get into my movie.

Here's the original story: http://www.electronichouse.com/artic...k_home_theater It looks like it is a real house in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The site where the story is from has stories on a lot of other cool houses and home theatres.

If you're more of a Star Wars geek, you might prefer this theatre owned by the founders of the Star Wars fan club, and designed by Doug Chiang, the lead designer on the first two Star Wars prequels: http://www.electronichouse.com/artic...h_star_theater

I have seen some awfully good homemade theater rooms of late. Picked one of my son's up at a friends house and got a tour of their theater room. Two couches with the 2nd one raised and four lazyboy recliners. Along with one of those retro popcorn machines and some cool plastic popcorn holders.

Very nice setup.

Also saw one when house hunting that was an excellent use of a fairly small room where they had taken advantage of every square inch.

I know I've been thinking that this is my next home project and I'm going to incorporate some of their ideas!!!
