Reynolds Unhappy
As per TSN

Quote:
Eight touches and a couple in short yardage situations ... very disappointing," Reynolds told the Calgary Sun. "I would love to definitely tell you what I think of it, but what I think or say doesn't matter. I don't get any explanations. I think this year has been far worse than it has in the past."
|
Quote:
"I don't know at this point if that's the route to go," Reynolds told the Sun. "I'm going to have to evaluate some things. The game was just the other night so I'm obviously frustrated and I don't want to say anything I don't really mean.
|
Quote:
"I've had a lot of success in Calgary and would like to see a Grey Cup come to Calgary," Reynolds told the Calgary Sun. "Obviously, in the off-season, there will be changes in coaches and players and, who knows, I could be one of them. You never know. You just have to wait and see."

sad to see but not suprising. he went from the best back in the country to under utilized and forgotten in a dissapointing season. and not getting utilitized in the playoffs, thats gotta suck. would be hard to lose him but it should be an interesting offseason

boo freaking who to him. The guy had 3rd most rushing yards in the league and his carries per dropped by an insignificant margin.
Cry me a frickin river.

I would have kept the ball out of his hands too. This guy only knows how to fumble when it comes to big games.

11 yards on 5 carries says Reynolds should be quiet.
I understand where he's coming from, but if that's the case then make them give you the ball. Running for 2 yards a carry isn't going to make the coaches change anything.
You could tell Reynolds wasn't running hard either - he was running not to fumble it. Any contact and Reynolds would just squeeze the ball and hit the deck. What's the use of giving him the ball if he's going to run like that? So what if he's fumbled in the past - you got to be mentally strong enough to forget about it and run like you actually mean it.

Not sure about that, it was reported two of his carries were short yard situations. I don't believe you can guage any running back in the league on three carries.
IMO, he was miss-used. Stamps when they fall behind were to willing to shelf the running game which is a mistake in my opinion.
I hope Reynolds does not demand a trade as he will be missed.

If you watched Reynolds run you could tell he wasn't going to do anything. He was going down at first contact and wasn't doing anything to fight for extra yards. He was more concerned about fumbling the ball than running with it and in that case it's a wasted down to give him the ball.

I guess I would disagree. He had so few touches there is no way anyone could tell what he could of done. Reynolds is a star calibre running back if you give him enough plays he will break one open.
Stamps when they fall behind drop the running game. It will be interesting to see if this is the same strategy next year.

I thought that early on, the coaching staff was saving Reynolds for late in the season, making sure he was still relatively fresh. And then the standings ended up being set fairly early, which left Reynolds with relatively few meaningful touches all year and a lack of confidence. He did look tentative, but I put the blame for that on the coaching staff: you can't save RBs for late in the season, it almost never works. The best thing for them is to run them consistently in every game so that their confidence gets high and they are thinking more about their game than about making mistakes. During our hot streak, that play fake option to Reynolds was pretty much unstoppable. Burris and Reynolds would just run that over and over in different combinations, and it was devastating. And then when Burris came back from his injury, they hardly ever ran it. I think I saw it once on Sunday.
Kelvin Anderson was a great example: even playing behind the most productive pass attack in the league every year, he got about 18 touches and 80+ yards every game. The coaches were consistent in the way they used him, and as a result his on-field performance was equally consistent. And Reynolds is probably a more skilled back than Anderson was.

That's a really good point. Anderson was able to be an all star back when he was here along with an all star receiving corp. Never heard anyone complain about not getting enough touches. Pitts always got his along with Danielson, Moore and the rest. Hopefully this will change with the coaching changes, but I believe Hufnagel has been accused of abandoning the run in the NFL.

I don't blame the guy. It's hard for a RB to get going if he only touches the ball every 20 plays. I still think Joffrey Reynolds is one of the best back in the league and I am sure if Calgary ever put him in the trade market, you will see most of the CFL teams will go after him.
I got the feeling that him and Higgins doesn't get along because it's been the second year that he is being ignored. That's why I am not really sad to see Higgins leave the Stamps coaching. He alienated those players that supposed to help him ie: Reynolds, Copeland (at the beginning), Lewis (at the beginning), Clark, and Anthony.

Maybe before he starts bitching he should learn how to hold onto the ball. Go 3+ games without a fumble and you will start getting the ball back.

Give me a break. The guy had 5 fumbles this year on 214 attempts. Everyone has bad games. He's an elite RB in this league.
Oh, also, when he got 4 carries in Montreal early in the season I don't think he had any funbles up to that point. So this isn't an isolated incident. The coaching staff made a choice this year to run the ball less.
Joffrey isn't a selfish guy. If they win, he doesn't say anything. He knows he can help this club win. The reason he says this is because if you give him the rock, every once in a while he's going to put up a big gain which moves the offence into a position to score points. He's frustrated because he knows he has skills that the coaches aren't utilizing. Those skills can help the team win, and thats what he wants to do.

I agree. Watch the talking heads accost him and run him out of town though, citing that he's a me-first, selfish player. Then watch him tear it up on another team with a QB and offensive system that is competent 100% of the time, rather than somewhere between 50-75%. Just another reason to be fed up with the Stamps.

Yes...and in those two games the stamps were ahead at half by more than two touchdowns and gave the games up by playing absolute horrible ball. It wasn't just reynolds causing this team to lose.
In any event, even if reynolds was a fumbling machine...which he isn't, you can't win a game with a one dimensional offence. If teams figure out you're going to throw every down, then whats the point of even having a RB in the backfield.

I had a chance to meet Ken Simington (sp) and he was a guy with a good head on his shoulders. Add his impressive effort against the Lions and I might be sorely tempted to go with him next season. Reynolds could be moved for some help on the defensive side of the ball where they are really weak.
