Adults drive 14-year-old to suicide by harassing her on MySpace
 This is very sad.
"I grabbed her as she tried to go by," Ron says. "She told me that some kids were saying horrible stuff about her and she didn't understand why. I told her it's OK. I told her that they obviously don't know her. And that it would be fine."
Megan went to her room and Ron went downstairs to the kitchen, where he and Tina talked about what had happened, the MySpace account, and made dinner.
Twenty minutes later, Tina suddenly froze in mid-sentence.
"I had this God-awful feeling and I ran up into her room and she had hung herself in the closet."
It was from Josh and, according to Ron's best recollection, it said, "Everybody in O'Fallon knows how you are. You are a bad person and everybody hates you. Have a ty rest of your life. The world would be a better place without you."
The neighbor from down the street, a single mom with a daughter the same age as Megan, informed the Meiers that Josh Evans never existed.
She told the Meiers that Josh Evans was created by adults, a family on their block.
"I know that they did not physically come up to our house and tie a belt around her neck," Tina says. "But when adults are involved and continue to screw with a 13-year-old - with or without mental problems - it is absolutely vile.

The anonymity of the internet is a double edged blade.
At the same time as it endows a certain amount of privacy, it simultaneously strips any degree of empathy and moral duty of care.

I opened this thinking I could have substituted "the smoking doors at the High School" for "Myspace." Looks like it's something different all together.
And this is why my sister has me check out my niece's Facebook every so often; just to be sure she's being safe.

The name of the adults (aka the mom) who were the brain child of Josh have been outed (along with their address). I'm not sure if I can post it here since i don't know what it will accomplish but needless to say those people will likely be getting death threats. Hope it was worth it.

I think the only solace that can be taken here is that that mother and daughter are going to live the rest of their lives hoping that any new friend they make never finds out their secret.
And in the age of google, it'll be a very lonely life for these people. I sincerely hope that they spend the rest of their lives making friends and losing them a few months later.

Haha...that was hilarious....seriously? How screwed up of an Adult do you have to be to do this and encourage your kid to do it too?
I know two people who are "Bad people" and will be "hated by everybody" and have a "ty rest of their lives."
While the hatred focused towards this girl was entirely ficitional, these fortunate people are going to experience the real thing for the rest of their lives.
The irony, while laid on thick enough to be palpable, doesnt seem enough.
Haha...isnt that hilarious?

It does not appear that there will be criminal charges filed in connection with Megan's death.
"We did not have a charge to fit it," McGuire says. "I don't know that anybody can sit down and say, 'This is why this young girl took her life.'"

What a depressing story. The poor girl seems to have been getting her life together and battling through depression and then this happens. Terribly sad story and there isn't anything they can do. They get to just live with it.
The part of the story that really bugged me was from that police report where the mother said she didn't feel as guilty because she heard the girl had tried to commit suicide once before, even though the mother says she never did try before. Heartless.

Probably related to the part when Tara said that in gr3, Megan talked about suicide. Since then she has been seeing a therapist.
How old is a kid in gr3?
Megan was 14? Thats gr9? So she was talking about suicide at the age of 8?

This is one of those cases where I think a criminally negligent homicide charge would be justified.

This goes back to why I think there should be a law in place where everyone gets one free killing a year.
I'd freely donate my killing to the family of the victim.
If there's an actual hell, the family that caused this death is going to be up to their necks in flaming hot magma.

True, I realize that's probably what the woman was referring to, but talking about suicide is different from actually trying. And either way, for that to make you feel less guilty about the suicide of a young girl after you harrassed her is pretty heartless.

I'd say that talking about it isn't much different from trying. I mean, who actually wants to go on record as having contemplated suicide unless they actually were considering it?
The other mom is a total and complete failure as a role model. Not only participates (perhaps instigated) the fake account, but afterward - after getting "caught" - still has the audacity to try to half @ss justify it.
