it is a busy schedule and I am not completely familiar with the itinerary, but I do know that the first three days are in Phuket.
I can get more details if you are interested.

Interesting because you have to fly into Bangkok to get to Phuket I would think.

Don't worry about the details I was just wondering

Thanks, I have a few questions.

How many different hotels/locations would there be?

What are the details of the sightseeing, how much of this would there be, what kind of sightseeing?

What is an american breakfast? How much do drinks cost?

Thanks for posting this, I am very interested. I am thinking of going to Vietnam, or Thailand in February 07 with my wife for 2 or 3 weeks.

to correct an earlier error, the tour starts in Bangkok.

Bangkok - 3 nights at the Amari Atrium Hotel 4*
Phuket - 7 nights at the Andaman Seaview Hotel 4*
Bangkok - 1 night at the Amari Atrium Hotel

1/2 day city tour, Bangkok, rest of the time is free time.

Full Buffet breakfasts, local beer is quite inexpensive. other drinks typically run 5/6 dollars.

hope that helps.

I've heard stories of people staying for 10bucks a night and getting massages for 3 bucks an hour and paying 2 bucks for a meal. Is this exaggerated?

depends where you go and at what time of the year

when we went we stayed on Koh Phi Phi, a fairy ride from Phuket and the place where "The Beach" was filmed. Stayed in a "higher end" place for 35 CAD a night

It is not hard at all to find extremely clean rooms in good tourist areas for around 10-20 dollars a night. If you go with a fan room you get a few dollars off but my experiences would recommend getting a room with AC. Massages are usually about 5-6 dollars but price can vary but a couple bucks depending on the location and the type of massage (not talking about the happy ones), As for meals, it's about 60-100 baht (2-3 dollars) for a typical Thai dish with steamed rice. Drinks are generally about 50 cents to 1 dollar if you aren't drinking beer.

For a 2-3 week trip you can definitely do it for much cheaper then 2500 a person but if you are someone who likes a very structured vacation this wouldn't be too bad at all.

I would agree I would never do an all enclusive myself in a place like Thailand. If you have a decent travel agent you could go there and stay dirt cheap for a month. I know quite a few people who have been/lived there and they all tell me it is a ridiculously cheap place to stay in. In fact, for my bro, TheCommodoreAfro, it is a cheap and sunny travel spot for people in Japan a la mexico for us.

all i know is i was in Pattaya earlier this year and when i am old fat and widowed, i know where i am moving to.

oh and a good rule to live by in Thailand is the if the chick is hot, she is probably "not". Thailand is plastic surgery capital of the world.

She might also be a fella. Worked in Kazakhstan for 9 years and spent many a 3 week break in Thailand and Malaysia.

1) It really is that cheap.

A have spent 7+ months in Thailand over the past 4 years and usually pay $3-$12/night for accomodation. That would be split two ways though, so only $1.5-$6/night/person.

Much nicer accomodation is usually $15-$35 and then REALLY nice is available for a lot more. But i was always happy around $9 (300 Baht).

Bangkok is a bit more usually, 350-850 Baht.

Phuket and Koh Samui are somewhere inbetween. They can range upwards pretty quick if full - but they are not that nice either.

Messages have risen more into the $5 range, and even a few more dollars a lot of times. Still cheap though.

Food is usually $1/$2 a meal.

2) That is not really a fantastic deal. Airfare is the biggest part by FAR of a journey there and it can be had for $1200-$1500 easily.

I spend less than $2500 while flying Cathay there and back and staying for 2 months on a gorgous beach.

3) Phuket is SICK. Sick like gross. It is where all the sex trade and stuff is. There are a few big resorts that are nicer but it always depresses me when i hear of people going to Thailand and then only seeing Phuket, Koh Samui, PAttaya and Bangkok. There are SO many better places to go in Thailand! By my standards anyways....
