Default More soccer violence in Italy

This time a cop shot and killed a fan, leading to riots.

UEFA's president chimes in with what may be the worst idea ever:

Quote:
UEFA president Michel Platini suggested requiring fans to bring a child with them to games once matches start again in Italy.

“That would be the perfect antidote,” Platini said in interview with Italian daily Il Giornale. “(Fans) would have to count to 10 before raising their voice or their hands.”
Lets grow another generation of soccer hooligans. Good idea boss!

Thats a fantastic suggestion.

Media: The violence isnt bad enough.

UEFA Boss: Mandate the inclusion of small people who cant take care of themselves during a meal let alone an out of control eruption of violence.

Media: Yup. That should take care of it.

The problem is in general, and in this case specifically, its the polticial extermists and thugs that use any reason they can to resort to any sort of violence against the State, under the guise of football.

When two groups of fans are fighting, and one gets killed by cops, what right does that give anyone, let alone "fans" of a team not even affected, to start rioting in the streets of some city that's not even associated with the teams involved?

None, and it shows that it has nothing to do with soccer in these people's minds.

Now, bringing kids to games may not be safe for various reasons (ie even some of these idiots probably wouln't have enough of a concience to attack children of an opposing teams fan base), but its not for the fact thet they'd be "in training"...its driving at the root of the problem, where it appears that these idiots who are the cause of this, are seemingly forgetting that innocent people are getting hurt by the pathetic, useless actions of the select few of them. They are also ruining soccer and its reputation in Italy on a semi-monthly basis, and a black mark against its population as a whole IMO.

The solution is simple... ban away fans from attending games indefinitely and severely crack down on these ultras groups of hooligans. They need to be stripped of all ties and powers to the clubs they "support."

However, this situation was just nutty. The policeman was a total idiot (which could happen anywhere) and the people rioted because of the incidental brutality. This is barely a soccer situation. Lazio and Juventus weren't even playing that day. Juve fans didn't even riot... it was all in Milan and Rome.

This is akin to a dozen or so Flames and Oilers fans getting rowdy at a bar parking lot or a train station. Instead of a policeman on scene handling it competently, he shoots his gun off in the air and accidentally firing another shot into a guy's neck. Is the NHL at fault for a dozen morons and an idiot cop? Absolutely not. Is Lega Calcio at fault here then? No.

But... the hooligan groups are very reactionary... anywhere... and soccer games are a good place to show your anger. Suspending games only shows these idiots they have power. The show must go on, but at the expense of hooligans and away fans. Platini's idea is ######ed... he was a solid player, but a horrible administrator.

Argument here saying it's a society problem, not just a soccer one.
