Yup. And it seems like he is losing the best of three tournaments. Can't remember the last time he lost in a best of five tournament against someone other than Nadal

I think there a few players on the tour that'll definitely be pushing for that number one ranking. Nadal and Djokovic are young and will hit their full stride within the next few years. I also think Murray has a great future.

Even so, Federer still has so much tennis to play. I agree that he's the best athlete in the world. I admire his finesse, but also his humbleness. He's not only a great ambassador for sports, but sportsmanship. I really enjoy watching him play.

Djokovic is certainly a personality on the court, and that's fun to watch. Yet, at the end of the day, I'd rather watch the grace of Federer.

I love tennis!

He loses to Nalbandian alot. They have a 8-8 record if IIRC. One of those was a 5 setter in Shanghai a couple of years ago, with Federer up 2-0 believe it or not.

Federer has made 11 consecutive Grand Slam finals which is absolutely stunning. Winning 9 of them and losing 2 French Open Finals to Nadal as you said.

Well the best tennis player i've ever seen play is back to his old self. He whipped Nadal in straight sets in the semis and beat Ferrer in the finals to win his 4th Masters Cup Title.

Federer is a machine. I think he could win 20 + grand slam titles.

Question: He will easily win 20 Grand slams.. would it still be an amazing achievement if he never wins the French?

Roger Federer is my favourite athlete... period. Don't think any one touches this guy in terms of being the perfect role model for his/her sport. Absolutely dominating and incredibly humble.

I agree. Agassi was my favorite but then he retired. After he did, Federer is my favorite athlete. Class act on and off the court.

In terms of not winning a French, it's an amazing achievment what he's done already (not to mention if he wins 20+) so I don't think so. However, I say he definately wins a French before he is done. He's came close, just needs to beat Nadal. If Nadal loses before the finals ever at the French, it's Federer's to take.

I think so, Sampras, Borg, McEnroe all are considered all time greats yet none of them have won the career slam.

Federer tied a bunch of records this year, and next year could be the year he cements himself as greatest of all time.

Sampras beat Federer today in an exhibition match. Federer said Sampras could still beat the top 5 players in the world if he was on tour.

Default Wow. Federer Loses Two Matches in a Row

http://www.tsn.ca/tennis/news_story/?ID=231140&hubname=

Is this the beginning of the end for The Fed?

I hope not.

Come on Roger! Win the French now while you're still the best!

It's hard to say what will happen to Federer. The influx of young, talented players is great. He's going to be challenged more frequently now. It seems that Andy Murray really has his number. Looking at the point standings, Nadal is not too far away.

Will we see a new number one for the first time in four years?

Dont think it's a big deal. He hadn't play in over a month.
And to lose 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-4 in tennis is just a bounce here or there.

If he starts losing in 4-5 tournaments in a row then I'd be really worried.

Roger will win atleast 8 more grand slam titles IMO. The French obviously will be the toughest with Nadal around and i'm not sure if he will win one of those but in the other 3 slam's he is the heavy favorite still. Guys like Nadal, Djokovic etc are strong competitors but Federer is nowhere near done. He'll break Sampras' Grand Slam record and finish with over 20 by the time he is done.

It turns out that Federer had mono:

I would love to see the Sampras/Federer match at MSG tonight. Is anyone going? Here's a good preview article:

I don't think it is airing on TSN. I wonder where?

I caught the final set. Man, Pistol Pete still has it. I wonder what rank he'd be if he was still playing. Top 5? Sure looked like it tonight.

I was worried that Roger might've lost his third straight match and second straight match against Pete

Roger was going at about 50% speed. Hitting mostly slices and letting Pete stay in the point. It's an exhibition afterall and it's nice that he puts on an entertaining show for the fans instead of blowing Pete off the court.

Pete would do well at Wimbledon (maybe quarterfinals) but he would be obliterated on other surfaces.

I agree. I taped the match and watched it this morning.

Plus, if Roger wears his watch during a match, I know he's not going full force.

Roger wears hit watch at some tournaments as well, not just at exhibitions. I noticed he wore it at a Monte Carlo event as well at a Masters event this past year.

In terms of Sampras, he'd be better then a lot of the players on the tour still. Not many people have that serve and volley game he does. Sampras would be a top 10 player if he still played. He wouldn't do great at the French but even when he was in his prime he couldn't win it (like Federer) but he'd do pretty well at the other 3. Federer said himself that if Sampras still played he'd be ranked about 4th or 5th in the world right now behind himself, Nadal, and Djokovic.

I want to see Agassi vs Federer again! My two favs of all time! I'm not much of a Sampras fan because he was the main rival of my favorite player (Agassi).
