My nitpick of the comercial has to do with the mechanics/physics of it. Any time I've been carrying anything heavy, and I slip, I have trouble lifting it that high as I fall down; the heavy item goes down before me.

And I probably have 80-100 pounds on that girl in the ad.

We're the MTV generation. What we're meant to feel is the urge to shop. Ummm, shopping!!! I think I can go spend my money on EBay buying something I don't need, ummmm!!!!
That, and for some stupid reason I'm supposed to care about some Brit Prince or something breaking up with his girlfriend.

The goal of the ad is not to necesarily scare you.
The commercial has gotten people talking and thinking about work place accidents. This thread is evidence of that and Ive had several friends bring up the ad as well. As a couple of posters have said, they at times let safety slide at work. If the ad makes you think about accidents at work, then its done its job.

You know what would be cool? If they showed that spliced together with the bullet commercial. That would get my attention.

This really bothered me as well, since my son works in kitchens. One is a small pizza parlour, and they have never had any discussion of safety in the work place there. They have a couple of deep fryers and I do worry about safety issues.

I thought the same thing. The ad is just silly IMO.

Waste of money by an agency trying to win an award I bet.

Shocking commercials don't work. They just shock. That's it. They look sexy and get people talking about it but ultimately people end up talking more about the shocking nature about it instead of any specific action to be taken.

What am I supposed to do after watching that commercial? I guess clean up grease when its on my kitchen floor? I do that anyways.

What do they want from me?

In other news...

The guy that comes to her aid kinda looks like a young Gary Busey no?

I do see your point, but to me the commercial is a little more effective in that it does generate conversation. Their goal is to have it seen by as many people as possible and it appears to be working.

I'll tell you this: if that commercial was just a chef standing around spouting out facts about work safety we sure as hell wouldn't be having a discussion about it.

That's the thing though. The aim of these commercials ultimately has to be to shift some sort of behaviour - apparently to be more careful in the workplace.

Conversation about it doesn't equal a change in behaviour.

I just see a connection between the commercial and an end result.

What I do see is an agency trying to do something "edgy" because that's what they like to do - but at the end of the day its a waste of money.
