Video Games Live Tonight/Tomorrow
I am going tonight and I am SO excited. I am having dinner with my friends at the Wildfire Grill (Flames Central) beforehand. Should be a blast!
Video Games Live
By Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic Chorus
Quote:
Don't miss this groundbreaking concert event celebrating music from some of the greatest video games, as the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus combine with video footage, lasers, lights and live action to create an explosive and unique entertainment experience!
Music and exclusive video footage from:
MARIO™, ZELDA®, HALO®, METAL GEAR SOLID®, WARCRAFT®, MYST®, FINAL FANTASY®, and KINGDOM HEARTS. The evening also includes the exclusive HALO 3 announcement trailer score. There will also be a "Classic Arcade Medley" featuring music from Pong, Donkey Kong, Dragon’s Lair, Tetris, Frogger, Gauntlet, Space Invaders and Outrun.
|
So, are there any other CPers attending?
Does anyone know, offhand, how long the concert will be?
Is anyone as excited as me?

Man, I would love to see this!
For anyone who can't make it, there are alot of good bands/orchestras that do this stuff, such as The Minibosses, The Black Mages, and Calgary's own THWOMP!

I'm going and it should be a total blast. I have no idea what time to get there (apparently there's some crap going on before the show starts) but I'm just going to go for some sushi first and hopefully arrive a little early.

I only heard about this earlier this week and missed out on tickets.

Wow, others have the exact same plans I have:
Wildfire grill followed by the cultural experience of having video game music played by a symphonic orchestra.
I'm so looking forward to this!

Great idea by the CPO to expand it's reach to non traditional customers, much like their Night at the Oscars night.

The only thing the CPO has to do with this is playing the music. They didn't do anything of the legwork or picking the music/promoting/etc.

Well that was a great amount of fun. Good general music selection, lots of classics. They atmosphere was casual and fun. The guys did a great job for the most part, though I must say I was disappointed with the vocal soloists for the most part. The guy who did Civ IV was pretty good, and the boy falsetto was not bad, but the first soprano chick was terrible.
But overall a great show. Nerdtastic!

Wasn't the music in MYST® more on the ambient side? I don't recall a lot of Mario Bros.-esque themes.
