Apparently, according to reports, Hufnagel to a 6 year, $2.5 million contract that includes a financial stake in the club.

Wowzers. For the past 7-8 years the Stamps have been over correcting. A financial stake in the club. *Sigh* Im a fan of Hufnagel, but that and being the highest paid coach in the CFL is a bit much.

I predict this will not end well. I think the real problem is Barker.

I really thought the stamps had turned a corner with the new ownership, this just proves that nothing has changed. THey have a coach that wont even play one of the teams most solid defensive players in the game of the year? What a joke, and to top it off the coaches are losing control of themselves in public! This organization is destined for many more years of futility with people like higgens and hellard at the helm. Why you would even risk distracting your team with contract talks for a new coach is beyond me, thats like saying we know you wont win so we are doing something about it now.

Depending on the agreement he has for this, a 'financial stake' could also mean that in addition to sharing in the profits of the club, he would also share in the 'losses' as well. To my understanding the Stamps have really been in 'break-even/small loss' territory the past few years. Therefore the 'financial stake' could actually be a risk-management/incentive technique for the club as they effectively would be paying him less if they're losing money. Should they make money, which most likely is a result of on-field sucess, it would be rewarding him.

Wow so I guess we can expect the Stamps to loose the next game, worst timing ever (before your first playoff game)

I understand that. I think that it's a bit premature to offer a new headcoach such an option. It looks desperate - like the Stamps are overcorrecting for hiring Higgins.

But, youre right, it could be a motivating factor... but I hope a head coach wouldnt need one.

i'm pretty sure the Stamps have been in the black ink for the past 2 years. This year not sure since we don't have the extra revenue from a playoff game.

On the topic of Clark, he's lost a step this year. He is no where near the player he used to be. Find his situation similar to Grace and White in the last couple years. I doubt he will be with the club next year. He's already been splitting time with Coe depending on the ratio.

I say it's an insult to clark for him not to be out there, and I think he should be there regardless. but he has lost a step and I don't see a big downgrade in playing Coe more. He's been playing better this year.

The team is in shambles right now. This has turned into a circus and it's unfortunate because if the players can't focus, their going to get destroyed. Need to score early and get some confidence going. Can't get down in this game because of the crowd. will be interesting to see what team shows up on Sunday. A team that looks tired and in a spiral, or will we see some resolve, a commmon thought that "everyone is kicking us when we're down, now i'm going to show you"

Thats great to hear that Higgy will no longer be gettin jiggy in Calgary anymore, I've grown tired of his head-scratching calls late in close games. However, why they chose to announce this NOW, leading into a playoffs game, is beyond stupid. This team is embarassing right now.

Hellard was on Sports Talk (QR77) last night and denied that Hufnagel had a contract with the Stamps. I can't remember the exact wording, but it was something like this:

- He acknowledged that he, and others in the Stamps organization, know Hufnagel.

- On this exact subject:

"Has Hufnagel been approached about a contract?"

"No, he has not"

The quote was played numerous times during their morning show sports news segments this morning. Billy Powers also made it sound like Hellard was very frustrated with QR for reporting this as fact.

I appreciate that, but someone in the organization high enough to know about the contract leaked the information... that is unprofessional.

And so when the Stamps hire Huff in the off-season wonder what Hellard will say then.

Just another example of why I am no longer a big CFL or Stamps fan - just too much of this junk goes on.

I'd also like to know why on earth Brian Clark is not playing in the game. Ratio shmatio-the guy should and deserves to be playing.

I've been a member over at www.gostampsgo.com for about 3.5 years now and Hellard makes regular appearances over there to answer fan questions. He hasnt visited as much this year, which I'm sure is due to the fact the fanbase hasnt been as happy as previous seasons, but he has still made an appearance when something big comes up that needs answering. I wouldnt be surprised to see him make an appearance on GSG soon(probably after the Stamps season is over) to address this very issue.

This stuff happens all the time in the NFL too. ex. Bill Parcells.

Didn't notice this posted (in this thread at least). Sounds like things are coming to a head at the worst time possible.

Well Mike Petrie on the Fan was interesting. He was the reporter supposedly verbally attacked by the assistant coach but he says it was no big deal. Basically played down everything and said the locker room is fine. Without naming him specifically - took a few swipes at Francis.

Except he does say Huff will be the coach next year.

Yeah I heard it too. After listening to him I feel better about the Stamps going into this game. It's hard for us fans because all we get is whats written in the papers and a few short videos. I guess if we took what was written about in the paper then yeah, the Org is crumbling, but writers don't write about the normal stuff, only the interesting stuff. I guess the attention is moreso on the coaches and not on the players, which is a good thing leading up to this game. Hopefully the players can take the underdog status into Sask. The Riders have the playoff hopes of the entire province and 19 years of no home playoff game history to carry on their backs. Would be nice to see them fall flat on their faces. Go Stamps Go!

On Snet Connected, further rumor that Hufnagel doesn't want Barker as GM...but get this....Roy Shivers.

Very hard to supprt the team if that racist, egotistical SOB has anything to do with the club again.

Could you imagine if this team actually caught fire and won the Grey Cup? That would put the ownership in an interesting dilemma...

The Roy Shivers but came from Eric Francis, so the only way i'll believe it is when it's announced by the org. Petrie says Huff is in so i'll believe that. Petrie is much more credible. I would accept Shivers as a scout, but not GM.

And Higgins will get an office job, so if they do win the cup, I guess they could say their making the team even better, which I think they are.

But this team has been very inconsistent these past 3 years. Regardless of whether thye win the cup or not, their play was supposed to get better and better. We're on year 3 of a 3 year plan and only had 7 wins. Shakeup is Due. Higgins had his chance. I like the guy a lot, but lets get some fresh faces in there.
