hip hip hooray for the SIM.

Kev-Guy takes over the SIM, and suddenly his Bruins are the modern incarnation of the 80s Oilers.

Panthers win again but for some strange reason they have been stuck at 6-4 in their last 10 for about 3 wins in a row now...

Panthers 2 Devils 0

Deciding to reward Marc Denis with back to back starts after his awsome game against the Islanders, Denis pulled through once again and was spectacular, saving all 35 shots he faced. Denis, tired of being a backup wanted to prove himself to the CPHL that he can be a great goaltender. Although he is not quite ready for the starting role, Denis looks to be a great goaltender on the rise.

It was the Curtis Brown show once again as he notched the Panthers only two goals on the night. Since coming to Florida, Brown has been on fire! Richard Zednik also had a strong outing and helped by getting 2 assists.

Game Stars

1 - Marc Denis (PAN)
2 - Curtis Brown (PAN)
3 - Richard Zednik (PAN)

St. Pete Times

Game Story

Who can ever figure out this Tampa Bay Lightning team? After a few defeats in a row the Lightning come back to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on the road. Radovan Somik led the charge as he scored the hat trick and earned the first star for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brad Bombadir chipped in with three assists and a plus 3 rating. The goaltending was finally good enough as Felix Potvin held the Leafs to only two goals on 25 shots.

GM moon:

“That was a great game for us the boys really put it together and I was impressed by the play of Somik. He has played well of late for us really doing the things we had expected of him when we traded to get him here.”

It was also a big night for Springfield as they won 10-2 and seem to have at least begun to turn their play around in order to salvage some positives out of what has been an otherwise disappointing season. Colin Shields had the second hat trick of the day in the Lightning organization and Brandon Reid chipped in with a few assists including the always popular two assists on one goal.

The Lightning next play at home on Friday as they take on the Ottawa Senators in what has become a bit of a rivalry with the two teams splitting games in the past week. Taking a page out of the Senators book the Lightning is challenging his team to rise to the occasion and defeat the evil, dirty Senators.

Isles bounce back with 4-1 victory

COLUMBUS, OH - Miroslav Satan added to his point total getting two assists in the victory.

Rumblings out of the Island -- primarily out of the mouth of Islanders' GM -- had big moves on the horizon for the New York club. It was apparent that the general manager was unhappy with the team's performance and one could hardly blame him.

The team had lost two straight, albeit one of them a one-goal game to the Panthers on Tuesday night, but a loss still.

It'd be foolish however, to believe that the rumours were sparked by the two-game loss when a simple look back at the Islanders' season would reveal a rather medicore record highlighted by inconsistency.

You'd have to go as far back as October to find the last time the Islanders were able to string together more than 4 victories without a loss in between.

"We know we've been playing bad for a big part of the season," Hull said. "We had a team meeting after the game last night, and hopefully we can put everything behind us now and just play hockey."

Play hockey, they certainly did on Wednesday as they fired 36 shots at Columbus goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff who was recently taken off the injured reserve by the Jackets.

Andrew Brunette and Miroslav Satan both finished with two helpers and two points, while Eric Daze, Andrew Cassels, Willie Mitchell, and Shayne Corson added goals to lead the Islanders to a 4-1 victory in Columbus.

Al MacInnis iced a solid 22 minutes in play-time while rugged defenceman Adam Foote led the way with 29 minutes in ice-time.

Despite playing one shift only, rookie forward Brad Boyes added an assist on Corson's 2nd period goal which came on the powerplay as the Islanders coach decided to try something different.

Also getting an assist was defenceman Brian Rafalski who set up the game's first goal only 6 seconds in when he sent Miroslav Satan in off the opening face-off who made a quick move on Jackets defenceman Richard Matvichuk before dropping a pass between his legs to the trailer Eric Daze, who rifled home his 26th of the season.

With the win the Islanders snap their 2-game losing skid and remain in 6th spot in the Gretzky Conference, 2 points behind the Rangers and Senators, and 2 points ahead of the surging Capitals.

"With the conference being as tight as it is right now, we can't afford to play the way we have been for most of the season," Damphousse said. "Everyone is coming on strong right now, and it's surprising that we're where we are right now considering how inconsistent we've been, but we know if we keep up that kind of play, we won't be here a few weeks down the road."

The Islanders will get a day of rest before they face the same Panthers that beat them on Tuesday evening, on Friday on the Island.

The Calgary Sun

February 9,2005

Flames 4 Wild 3

The Calgary Flames being hit by the injury bug almost continuously over the last two weeks, sucked it up and came away with a very big 2 points.

Curtis Leschyshyn injured in the third period, made it 3 guys on the injury shelf.
Flames being blessed with some D depth will merrily go along but how much longer will they have to survive the trip to the emergency ward.

GM Axmann feeling very confident recently of his D Depth, so much so that it almost led him to trade one of them for some more offensive punch seemed quite happy that a deal was not consumated.

flames although being totally outshot, held their own this night. Khabibulin continuously criticized for his lack lustre play rose to the challenged and play an outstanding game.

Game Stars

1 - Jarome Iginla (FLA) 2 Goals
2 - Rod Brind'Amour (FLA) 1 Goal and 2 Assists
3 - Robert Lang (FLA) 1 Goal and 2 Assists.

Well Hurme finally got his big chance after playing great at every opportunity since coming to the Leafs and...he blew it. It wasn't all his fault, though, as the rest of the team didn't do much better. Also, in continuance of the current trend, Doug Weight is now down day-to-day just as Mark Parrish is ready to return . That's four players in a row (Datsyuk-Renberg-Parrish-Weight), who have been injured day-to-day lately. Never two at once, but also never a game where everyone is healthy. Guess the sim didn't like our big unbeaten streak.

Oh, and the St. John Leafs lost big too.

edit: just to mention that EVERY GAME WHICH HAS A BEARING ON OUR PLAYOFF SPOT turned out badly for us today.

FIRE IN THE KITCHEN!!! ARE THE REDWINGS DONE??
Oilers grease Wings for third straight loss

Well amidst a difficult stretch in the schedule the Detroit Red Wings had very little left in the tank for todays tilt with the Edmonton Oilers. The boys from Michigan were playing for the 5th straight day, and against the Oilers for the third time in the last 6. With the Oilers rested and angry it looked like it could be a tough game for the Micheganers and to a certain extent it was. Although the 6-3 Oiler win was not a terribly bad result for the Wings considering the circumstances it did drop them down to 10th in the Howe 2 points behind the Kings and Wild, and tied with the resurgent Colorado Avalanche.

The Wings opened the scoring when Matthieu Birons point shot hit both Jay Bouwmeester and Stephane Quintal and found its way behind Martin Broduer. But just over 2 and a half minutes later the ice cold Oiler powerplay finally scored as Tom Poti ripped a shot from the faceoff circle over the glove of Johan "Anders" Hedberg. The two teams played out the next 15 minutes very tentatively generating very little in the way of offence and went to the intermission tied at one. The Wings took the lead again 6 minutes into the second stanza when Shane Doan muscled his way to the front of the Oiler net on the powerplay and ripped a shot high stick side. But fatigue set in and the Oilers went on to rattle off 4 straight goals to grab a commanding 5-2 lead. Brian Leetch got the ball rolling finishig off a 3-2 rush by taking a Bobby Holik feed and working his way betweeen the hash marks to beat Hedberg with a top corner shot to the glove side. Vincent Lecavalier extended the lead with a powerplay goal one minute and 20 seconds later. Radek Dvorak made it 3 goals in just over 3 minutes when he redirected home a Brian Leetch point shot to make it 4-2. Brendan Shanahan than upped the lead to 5-2 when he tapped in a Lecavalier pass at the side of the net and chased Hedberg. Jason Wooley closed out the frantic second period when he snuck in from the point to put one past Broduer to make it 5-3 after two.

Again having seen the Oilers blow several third period leads recently Oiler GM Sylvanfan went into the dressing room, and divulged some of the secrets he personally believes could help an individual committ murder and get away without consequence...Again his scare tactics were successfull as the Oilers mostly held the Wings to harmless perimeter shots in the third and did manage the only goal of the period. Radek Dvorak tallied his second of the game with just over two minutes left when he collected a rebound of a very healthy Dimitri Kalinin and put it behind Sean Burke.

The win keeps the Oilers second in the Howe conference 8 points up on the Ducks and miles behind the Predators. The Oilers still rank second in the CPHL and appear to have a bit of a shedulling lull with 4 of the next 5 games being against the Hawks and Stars. But as we all know the SIM acts in mysterious ways and the Hawks have played the Oilers tough this year. Despite numerous threats and mixed results Sylvanfan continues to stick with the current group of Oiler players.

Short game story today. Looooong day.

Wild play well but lose to the Flames who are ther acihelle's (sp?) this season. The key to the loss was the period in which the Wild outshot the Flames 20-4 but were outscored 2-1.

Tomorrow a "playoff like" game against he Kings.

Monstrous third straight victory for the Kings, vaulting the team not only into the playoffs but 7th spot at that (although it is a very precarious 7th spot).

Dan Cloutier with his second 1st star in two nights. He is now 4th in the entire league in star points, 2nd among goalies behind only Patrick Lalime.

Kings catch a break both on the out of town scoreboard and by facing an injury riddled Carolina Hurricanes team.

This weekend will feature several key four point games for the Kings, starting with Minnesota tomorrow.

Disapointing outing for the Senators.

The effort was there but we just could not beat Thibault who was on Fire last night.

of course taking 9 penalties also did not help our cause.

Next up a return match vs the Lighting.

Now that the team knows what it takes to beat the Lighting we again challenge the team to step up and play a strong game. Playing the same team 3 times in about a weak is cause for some tension between the 2 clubs.

The bottem feeding Lightning need to be shown their place

Another shut out lose for the Devils. At least we are keeping the goals against down, and another step closer to Crosby. Sean O'Donnell is available and I will take any good offers, I would like a good young cphl dman in return.

UGLY MAN UNSUNG HERO

Mike Ricci, the CPHL's most eligible bachalor for good reason, stepped up his game last night, taking it to the Phoenix Coyotes. His 3 point performance help the Capitals tame the Desert Dawgs 7-4.

"I'm just out to impress the ladies", said the Quazimoto lookalike.

Only four Capitals managed to stay off the scoresheet in the game. Tie Domi, Paul Mara, Todd Fedoruk, and Mattias Timander all regestered goose eggs in the point column Wednesday night.

"You kidna expect that from those four. Mara is a workhorse defesively... the other 3 just have hands of stone." clamed Capitals GM Rob Jamieson. "Usually when those guys get points, it's of the 'bounced off his knee or off his skate' variety."

The Capitals rest on day 104, in hopes they get a few banged up bodies back in time for their date with Cam.... We mean the game against the Nashville Predators. Nathan Horton has been doing some light skating with the team durring yesterdays team practice, and should try a full workout today. David Tanabe, who was dinged up in last nights game is expected to make a return for the game against the Preds as well. Rico Fata has gone missing, and the Capitals orgaization has put up flyers to get info on his where abouts.
