Post Annonymous tips?

Ok Calpuck, I am in need of some more advice!

A friend of mine was witness to a crime. She is scared to death of the guys who did it and fears if she goes to the cops they will come after her. She wants them to go to jail but doesn't know the safest way (for her) to make sure this happens.

Any suggestions? I know crimestoppers takes annonymous tips, but how annonymous is it?

I don't want go get into details on a public messageboard but I was really hoping someone on here had a story to share about a similar experience or an idea of how she can get the info to the cops without risking her own life.

Thanks again, and sorry if this is a little heavy for this board. Though my last thread was kinda in the same vein. You guys came through with some good advice there (that is *sorta* working so far) and hopefully you can do the same thing this time!

Crimestoppers. If they weren't anonymous I doubt they would still be around.

My mother works with Crimestoppers and as far as I can tell it is legit. She is very tightliipped about everything. THe only thing she ever tells me is "she is going to a meeting tonight". So take that for what it is worth.

Hopefully your friend makes the right decision...

From what I recall Crime Stoppers issues the caller a unique code- like a random password generator. They then give you a time to call back to check the status of your tip, and then when it's all said and done you can go in and collect your reward.

Not sure how much stays anonymous; like if they have to testify. But if the police can get a warrant based on a tip, then the search comes back with the murder weapon and DNA, there likely would be a need to testify.

I'm really hoping your friend tells everything she knows (although I can see why she is scared). Definately Crimestoppers though. I've used it before and i'm still alive!

Good luck to her! She's doing the right thing by reporting what she saw.

She's done the right thing. The family and friends of the victim deserve this. I know this is a huge thing for her to do not only in doing the right thing, but also I can't imagine it easy to watch someone die. I wish her safety and good fortune.

Gotta agree. OP edit the details out of the original post.

If she's a witness and the killers know it, I would think it would be in her best interest to help the police arrest them ASAP before they decide to "silence" her as a witness.

Mod edit- quote removed.

Do they know she saw them? If so, she needs to go to the police IMMEDIATELY as her life is in serious danger.

Holy crap dude! Get off the message board, go pick her up right now, and get the freaking lead out!
