Hingis tests positive....
for nose candy..... At least the A sample did. Rather than fight it, she retires.
You'd think she'd at least want to clear her legacy....

Her backup "B" sample also tested positive. She hired an independent testing firm to do a supplementary test, which, of course, tested negative.

Hard to believe you could compete at that level while indulging in coke.

She dated a string of fellow players and other sportsmen and acquired the somewhat unfair nickname "the black widow" for the downturns which her beaux' careers often took while they were escorting her. The tennis players Julian Alonso, Ivo Heuberger and Magnus Norman all plummeted down the rankings and the footballer Sol Campbell and golfer Sergio Garcia endured noticeable slumps in form when she was in the picture.
Her former fiancé and fellow player Radek Stepanek was the latest and most serious of her boyfriends but he announced, rather suddenly, in the summer that they had broken their engagement.

This reminds me of a comment that a bus driver once made when I did a Contiki tour of Europe. He said Swiss woman have a bad rap being labelled as boring vanilla women, and that they in fact were reason enough to visit that country. Martina certainly doesn't sound like a boring run of the mill woman! I'm sure she's made a fortune for herself and for what she can win going forward she might as well retire than play with this cloud over her head.

Her dad is Slovak, mother is Czech. She was born in Kosice, Sovakia. Not a drop of Swiss blood in her veins. But nice theory though

She lives there and is immersed in the culture. Represented the country internationally. Perhaps she grew up there too, not sure about that. They don't call her the "Swiss Miss" for nothing.

They call her "Swiss Miss" for the same reason they call Stan Mikita the "Uncheckable Czech"
Cant help it, this is a peevee of mine...

So Hingis wasn't born in Switzerland, but lives there, so she's disqualified as being Swiss. Mikita was born in Czechoslovakia, but didn't live there, so he's disqualified, too? I'm pretty sure it can't work both ways.

Mikita was born in Slovakia, not Czechoslovakia. I believe he only lived in Czechoslovakia for a very short period of time (less than a year). Its complicated!

One of my highschool buddies mom grew up with Mikita and his brothers back East. Her claim to fame was that she taught them how to swear in English.
Now back on topic.....Half Czech, half Slovak, that blows being Swiss out of the water any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

So what is coke considered a preformance enhancing drug because the people who think it is, obviously have no idea what they are talking about. Also if the info was released and its not against the drup policy for Tennis she should sue the WTA.

How could he be born in Slovakia and not Czechoslovakia? It was the same country back then...and only split apart LONG after Mikita had left. Calling him the Uncheckable Czech made sense back then...the NHL press wasn't going to tinkering with in regional dialects. I was born in Kosice (same as Martina) as well, and I always tell people I was born in Czechoslovakia since that's exactly what it was during my birth.
FYI, Slovakian girls are pretty slutty (and damn hot) in general...i seriously doubt this is the Swiss part of her acting out.

Because he was born in 1940, and in 1939 Czechoslovakia was divided (under pressure of Nazi Germany). It reunited after the WWII, and during that time Mikita left to North America.
However, I think you are right on the money with the last paragraph...

Incorrect! Mikita was born during the brief period between 1939 and 1945 when Czechoslovakia was split by the Germans into two separate countries. Although technically, it was the First Slovak Republic, rather than Slovakia.
edit: oops, FoL beat me to it.

Now now, slutty is derogatory. I prefer.....say playful. And when it comes to Eastern Europe vs. Western Europe....the girls from Eastern Europe do seem a bit more....umm playful.
It would seem fitting that someone with a mixed background would end up in neutral Switzerland though. I had a teacher who was from Serbia and his wife was Bosnian, but they came from the old Yugoslavia. He basically admitted that he had to leave the country because well....other didn't take kindly to their relationship. He did have a daughter my age who was rather good looking, and well....slutty too.
I think they test for stuff like Cocaine because it is a banned substance, not because it's performance enhancing. Like Ricky Williams....rather than take a suspension, easier to just retire at this stage of her career. Really it is astonishing to think that 27 is old in athletics....but for female athletes I suppose it is. Never really researched it myself, but I would guess due to the younger physical maturation that a female athlete would peak at the ages of say 19 to 24? Just a wild guess, but you do see a lot of 16 year old girls able to compete against top athletes in their sport, and sometimes as young as 14.

Swiss girls are about as stuck up and unapproachable as they get, which is why Swiss boys latch on to foreigners at every possible chance. If you say 'hi' to a Swiss girl it's not uncommon for her to assume you're propositioning her for sex and she'll turn away and not say a word. The courtship those poor guys go through is rediculous.
