I don't recall ever saying it was less racist.. but it's slippery for his loser son to bait him, and he DID bait him otherwise why would he bother with taping the phone conversation?

This is different than the Kramer rant in my opinion. He really screwed up there, saying some things that were absolutely demeaning. Dog just said "The Word" in a conversation he thought was a private one.

Like I said, nobody is perfect and obviously the word is used around that household freely when it shouldn't be but I'm not sure if he is a racist person. His freaking minister was a black man and one of the family's closest friends.

I don't know, it's a wierd situation but like I said just because you may speak out of turn about a race in the privacy of your own home dones't necessarily make you a racist in your every day life.

That's all I've got. I just think there's a huge difference in pulling a Kramer and publically degrading an entire race, and this dog situation, which was in private but unbenounced to him his own son had intentions to strike it rich.

I am not buying your "it's OK to use racist words in private" argument. Frankly it doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make the usage any different. The word is still being used in a racist connotation. The n-word is racist because of the meaning, not the setting. What you are saying is that the n-word isn't racist unless a black person hears it.

I dont buy it either. Setting is irrelevant - context is relevant. The context in which Dawg said it is wrong, whether he was set up or not.

That is your opinion.

The show should have nothing to do with the comments he made.

Besides...cancel it....and he'll back in a little while like Imus.

As long as nobody hears it, it doesn't hurt anybody... unless your loser son taps your phone and sells your comments to the National Enquirer.

Like I said, millions worldwide probably use racial slurs in the privacy of their own home one time or another, this doesn't mean they're racist in their day to day lives really.

I mean, yes.. absolutely it's still racism if used in private but as long as it's not use to hurt someone it's a bit of a different story.

I hope this doesn't make it seem like I personally am a racist around my home... lol

What you do in privacy is your day to day life is it not? I mean if it is natural for you to use racial slurs in the privacy of your home, but you have to hold off in real life, then that tells me something about that persons actual tendencies. Anyways I have an idea of what you are getting at, but I don't think it's coming across the way you want it to. Either way, I still don't think this excuses Dog in any way.

I could see that, even if its not with A&E. His show gets huge ratings, Im sure some station would be all over that. Besides, from what I saw when I went to that "An Evening With Dog the Bounty Hunter" thing here in Edmonton back in April, alot of his audience seems to be of the blue-collared, beer-guzzlin variety that I could see not having too much of a problem with these comments(then again it could just be how regular Edmonton folk look). I'm sure if A&E drops him, he'll find his way on TV again somewhere.

Fair enough... I'm just not politically correct at all. I think people should be free to say what they want in private, it's when it affects people is where there's a problem in my opinion, which is why I don't like all the backlash Dog is getting. His personal private comments were leaked by a disgruntled family member.

That's pretty slippery... however i'd say from the transcripts that Dog does have a serious underlying issue with blacks, perhaps it's due to his time in the clink. I dunno. But what I do know is this, to the heart he's a good person.

Nobody is perfect... let's not forget, this same man locked up a serial rapist and put his entire livelyhood on the line to get the guy off the street. He's not a bad person.

Yeah, I don't watch the show ever, I once saw it in a hotel I was staying at, so I don't really care what happens to the guy.

But I just don't buy the reasoning that your words speak louder than your actions. Judging by what's been written in this thread the guy has plenty of black friends. I don't see how that jives with the guy being a racist. Sure, he's dumb and politically incorrect. Inexcusable? I don't see how.

Are we really surprised that such things would come from a man with huge mullet?

I hate that show. The whole damn family seems inbred, and Dawg himself is so fug pugly it make it unbearable.

Righto.

I guess anyone with a mullet is automatically classified as having a greater chance of making racist comments.

Especially if his family 'seems' to be inbred.

His mentor in the bail/bonds business is a black man....and still a prominent bondsman in the Denver area.

So I guess the DOG marathon that was scheduled for today has been cancelled, lol. Poor Dog, I feel bad for the guy only because it seems his kid screwed him over pretty good.

I wonder how many people here can actually say they have never used a racial slur? I certainly can't...and I'm definitely not racist. Its interesting that everytime some celebrity uses the N word, in any context, it raises the huge issue of racism. I don't really believe that Kramer, Imus, or Dawg are racist people. Too me a racist displays a negative tendancy towards those of other races on a day in day out basis, and not only just through words, but their ideals and actions.

And honestly until black people stop referring to eachother as the N word, this kind of stuff will carry on. Rappers have made the N word cool.

Exactly, as is his pastor, as mentioned before. Its actually pretty gross to learn that him and his family use that word so frequently around the household-which has several young kids in it-to the point where he'd be worried about a black person living there because it would probably just slip out. Thats pretty trashy. But I really dont think Dog is a racist, I just dont buy it, it doesnt add up considering some of the people he keeps close to him.

It's a big dictionary - why must anyone use that work at all?

In no way attempting to condone it, don't use it ever, BUT....it seems to me there are actually two different words, and uses thereof, that just happen to be spelled and spoken exactly the same. With one, the N-word, is a heinous racial epithet used to denigrate an entire people group based solely on ethnicity. The other, also N-word, seems to be used to describe a base, clueless and / or classless subset of a people group who, incidentally, happen to share ethnicity.

The challenge is that the former is invariably, and rightly, considered offensive and should NOT be a part of reasonable dialogue. The other is tolerated, used casually, and is NOT considered perjorative, especially when used by a member of said ethic group.

I can't say for certain, but it seems possible that Dawg is getting the #1 treatment for what may have been a #2 usage.

A&E is resuming production on Dog the Bounty Hunter, looks like he's back. In other news, Tucker Chapman, aka his son who sold the phone recording to the press, is in jail for violating probation due to a drug conviction.
