I had a ton of outdoor cats around my old house in Deer Ridge.
There is nothing more disgusting that coming home and finding 3-4 cats have pissed in your back yard. That smell never goes away.
I have a cat myself but it doesn't go outside at all.
Once I got a humane trap from the city (at my expense) and sent a few of those kitty's to the pound they were kept inside a lot more.
One guy came to my house looking for his cat and I promptly gave him the card for animal services and told him to bring cash when he goes to pick up their kitty.
They were happy when I moved.

Really, get a life and quit accusing people of things. I have read Ken's comments in this thread. Where did he say he has a problem with cats or that he tortures cats as you have implied?
I don't think Ken has any problems with cats, dogs, whatever. But I do think he has a problem with any animal coming onto his property and threatening his pet. And there is nothing wrong with having such a problem.
Why don't you read posts instead of assuming and accusing people of things?

Well, it escaped my humor. And seriously, you would not believe how some cat owners really do believe that a cat should have the right to roam freely because that is part of their nature and to keep them indoors or on their property, well that is almost like animal cruelty to them.

/\/\ Definitely not being serious. I don't actually believe that Ken bottles cats. I thought I could have gotten away without using a winking emoticon, apparently not.

Well, perhaps I am still not over having to clean up my patio windows and disinfect the windows and the deck floor multipe times daily ((
When people are not responsible pet owners, the recipients of those stray animals can become very bitter.

Did you try washing your shoes? Throwing them out because you had a bit of cat crap on them seems either a little extreme or ocd.

Yes, cats use our fllower bed as a litter box, not nice. Paprika, hot peppers, orange peels are supposed to work ok. I turned the hose on tow that were scrapping beside my house at 4am this year. I'm not a fan of people who let their cats roam freely. My cats are of the indoor variety, they do go outside, but are on leashes and harnesses. This satisfies their urge to head outside.

Oh, I tried washing them alright. They were sandals actually. Poo smushed into all the little features and crevices of the sole. I actually used a rag, a stiff-bristled brush and a host of cleaning products to remove the offending material.
To be quite honest, after a lot of hard work I was able to remove the poo and the smell was masked by bleach and other cleansers. The shoes were probably salvaged but I got new ones anyway.
Upstairs Guy's cat (I think) was out in the yard on Wednesday morning. It was dark and I was sleepy. Damn thing was on the fence and scared the bloody hell out of me. On Halloween of all days. Super creepy but less smelly than other encounters.

1. They do not work nor do mothballs or keeping the ground moist all the time.
2. That is another whole issue with cats. They roam and they get into scraps and these are usually the cats that have not been neutered either. Our cats have always been neutered. One summer we had to spend over $700 on vet bills to repair all the wounds to our cat who was repeatedly attacked by some male cat who had never been neutered. Male cats will attack most other male cats, neutered or not, merely to get rid of the competition.

As for the swimming pools- I'm not sure what you're worried about. Cats don't like water so they wouldn't go in- and if they fell (unlikely) they can swim.
And as for trapping- when i was really little I had another cat which my neighbor caught and killed. Pretty much the most horrible thing to happen to a 4 year old.
Where I live now there are probably two or three cats at least at any given time in my yard- they aren't mine, but they aren't hurting anything so I don't mind at all. You don't have to worry about them getting hurt or lost- cats are more resourceful than you might think.

Sorry, I don't agree with this at all. Yes, they do dig in gardens, pee all over everything. Cats also do get lost all the time. Where do you think the humane society gets so many cats. It's not safe to let them wander. Our cat never goes outside and I'm sure she will live much longer than those two from the first post.

Do what my Grandpa does. When he finds a cat, it's a city cat. When he says good-bye to it, it's a country cat. LOL

Let them perish. Survival of the fittest. We used to have a roaming cat problem until the coyotes moved in. Now there are just missing cat posters instead of cats.....>AWESOME

I was just driving up on 14th street this afternoon by northmount drive... and there was a black and white house cat that just got ran over and dead on the street.. every car was trying to avoid running over the dead cat...quite sad.. i see a lot of unfortunate rabbits and birds etc. on the road, but never I've seen a house pet before...
it must be one of the nearby house's cat that was wandering around the neighbourhood... I can't imagine what will happen when the owner find the cat on the road.. sigh~

Wow, really? Two sides?
well about a year ago I saw a cat 95% dead just off of 17th ave by about 26th street, we stopped to see if there was anything we could do ... there wasn't it was just lunging at it's back legs that were flatted by a car. That must have been one of the dumb cats.
A few years ago I turned my head when a car going down Acadia drive hit it's brakes, I turned just in time to see a cat get smoked and skid 30 to 50 feet down the road, again, didn't die, it started leaning back and forth trying to stand but couldn't. That was probably a dumb one as well.
There is no 2 sides, anyone who lives in a city and has a cat as a pet AND let's it out unattended sucks, it's a very simple rule actually.
It's true for kids that nothing good happens outside their house at 1am, and same with cats, just that the rule is good 24hrs a day. All they do is stalk other houses with cats, pee on my bar-b-q and fight with other cats.

Anyone who lets their pet(s) roam freely, cats, dogs, ferrets, whatever, should lose their privelege to own a pet. It's unsafe for the animals and bloody nuisance to neighbours. I'll stop now before I launch into a full rant.

I know you're only trying to be funny, at least I hope you are, but there are people who will do that ... not just to cats, but dogs too. It's really not funny if it's ever happened to a pet of your own.

Actually outdoor cats are more at risk of getting diseases from birds, mice, etc. So they're not necessarily healthier for being outdoor cats.
