Default Dog the Bounty Hunter pulls an Imus

...while yelling at his son via telephone about his son's black girlfriend. Drops quite a few "N bombs". A&E has suspended his show until they find out further information, and it very well may be cancelled. You can read more and listen to the interview here:

I heard about this on Stern. Not a huge fan of the show, but I'll watch it from time to time. After 5 years of being on the air, I'm surprised that this slipped out. I mean, if he truly was a racist (which he very well may be) woudn't they have caught this type of talk on camera before?

I saw the news report on this this morning. He definitely cant say that he was "misquoted" or his comments were "taken out of context". Lots of n-bombs.

This show, for me, has worn out its welcome. Time for A&E to pull the plug, especially after this.

Any word on his legal troubles in Mexico? Last I heard, it hadnt been resolved fully and there's a risk of extradition.

The problem with these cases is that there is that inbetween group of people. A lot of us have a concept of racists v. not racists (for good reason, ignorance is not an excuse, i realize). But there are also the non-racists who sometimes act racist because they don't know any better.

What i mean is, i bet Dawg (or whatever his name is, not a fan of the show either) has and has had in the past more close black friends than most white people (and most of the people here) will ever have. Probably hundreds of times more.

How can someone with loads of Black friends who drops the N-bomb (like most of his black friends do ALL of the time no doubt) be considered more racist than a bunch of caucasian FOX-news republicans in their gated American communities who are looking for a news story? People who would have comparatively FAR fewer black friends, especially black friends who are part of the larger 'black culture' of the United States?

This Dawg guy can SOUND racist but ACT not racist. While others can SOUND not racist all day long but then ACT racist in their elitest lifestyle choices?

Still no excuse though....

Claeren.

The irony of this(as discussed on another forum) is that Stern drops N-bombs all the time, yet no one bats an eye. Although I suppose the difference is that Stern is a radio "shock jock", while Dog is supposed to be upholding the law and someone who people should be able to look up to. What did Stern have to say about it anyways, I'd be interested to hear his comments on this.

As for Dog, if you listened to his phone call, the irony of him destroying 30 years of work by going on a tirade about how he's not going to take a chance of destroying 30 years of work is a little funny. What a year this guy is having! Gets arrested by the FBI and faces possibly being extradited to Mexico, and now he very well may have destroyed his whole show by going on some stupid tirade.

I was absolutely addicted to this show back when I discovered it in the summer of '06, and I still like it, but I wouldnt be surprised if A&E pulled the plug on it after this, what a dummy...also, does this mean the Dog the Bounty Hunter marathon scheduled for Saturday won't be on anymore?

RTFA?

I'm assuming it was off his show or something.

A&E has suspended filming of bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman's reality show after a tape was released of him using the N-word in a racist rant. Chapman's bigoted remarks were directed at his son's African-American girlfriend, and were first revealed at a tabloid's website.

How does living in a gated community and voting Republican make someone racist?

Wasn't this caught on cameras used for the show and Dawg, at the end, demanded they turn the cameras off?

I'm not sure if it was tapped. It sounded like he was leaving a message on his son's answering machine, because I didnt hear the son respond at all. Which makes me wonder if the son or his girlfriend who Dog was raggin on took it to the press.

Well under Haw. Rev. Stat. Sec. 803-42, a party to the conversation can lawfully record a conversation so long as no tortious purpose exists. Perhaps it was his son, sons girlfriend or overheard by a recording device that was in the same room as Dawg.

Oh is that what happened? Thats surprising if thats what it in fact was. As the show's been on for four seasons now, Id imagine the cameramen have developed quite a rapport with the Chapman family after this time, as well as A&E itself, which I think is shown in the way the network strongly stood up for Dog during the whole extradition affair. I'd think that if the cameras were rolling when Dog went on this rant, the cameraman would probably just look the other way on it and get rid of the tape(sort of like a travelling sportswriter who looks the other way on events happening on the team bus).

Or even if this was the case, you'd think A&E would at least not let them release the tape, considering Dog the Bounty Hunter is by far the station's #1 rated show, with 2.2 million viewers tuning in every week. I would really have a tough time believing it was anyone working within A&E who broke this story to the press. I'd have to figure the son or the son's girlfriend just brought in the tape of the answering machine to the press.

Getting OT a bit here, but you certainly have a point there. One of my pet peeves is politically correct people leaping to the defence of individuals they do not know, and with whom they do not associate, in order to decry what they think is racist or offensive. If you're comfortable with different groups of people, you don't tend to be stilted and formal in your language with them, and often adopt terms which are usually used only withing that group. Something I've done myself (and been called to task on) on a couple of occasions.

On the other hand, in this context, I'm not so sure that's what Dog was up to.
