Default Westboro Baptist Church gets hit where it hurts

Remember those idiots who picket soldier's funerals? Fallen soldier's family sues and wins. Hope those collections on Sundays have been going good, they'll need some extra dough to pay this one. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of jerks.

Saw this Phelps on CNN last night. Quite a clown. Refused to answer any questions, and just shouted down the reporter the whole time. If it were my son killed in war, and he showed up with the sign, "Another fag in Hell" at the funeral; I doubt he would survive the day. Answering hate with hate is wrong, but how do you reason with religious fanatics?

Reason and religious fanatic are words that don't belong in the same sentence. Unless you are taking about lack of reasoning and logic.

You can't.

Phelps is a ######bag.

I wonder if 10.9 million is a lot of money for them.

Hopefully more families go after them this way.

The entire Westborough Baptist Church is fathered by this preacher, it's one entire inbred colony/family of hate. They have no connection to actual Baptists.

Phelps is certainly one helluva piece of work. U.S vets have established a group that will come to a soldiers funeral and non violently (but they are all mean looking dudes) impose their presence between the grieving family and this Phelps nutcase family who scream out insults to the family.

There are biker gangs who do this also.

Phelps is a prime example of what happens when you mate Kentucky style.

Good. I hate these morons at Westboro Baptist Church. Makes me sick that they picket funerals with all of their "beliefs". Absolutely disgusting. The worst was during the 9/11 memorials as well as the Virginia Tech shooting when they picketed Ryan Clark's funeral. I'm glad these guys got sued $11 M. I've wrote them a lot of letters to which a few were responded. Phelps' daughter irritates me more then Phelps himself. They have all their signs wrong though. They should read: God Hates The Phelps.

Too much? Not enough? Why?

My favorite part was the attorney telling the jury to pick an amount. Second favorite was Phelps saying that this has elevated him to 'something important'.

Exactly.

Another article showing the sensitivity and wonder of how religion is so good for the world.

The truth is they take the biblical word literally.

So what they are doing in their own minds is following the exact word of god, and therefor they are only speaking the truth as they see it.

This is the problem with religion, the exact biblical texts are racist, full of hate, full of abuse, rape, horrible treatment of women and encourages ethnic cleansing.

The great majority of religious preachers pick and choose what to talk about while ignoring these brutal passages because they understand that most reasonable people would be deeply offended by them.

These nuts, well they just agree to the whole book without question. They are just following the bible.

Too bad they didn't read about how the bible was written, that the testaments are full of ancient deity stories.

These people are true believers, everyone else ignores the bible and agree with parts that they like while pretending other parts don't exist. So yes they are nut bags, but what do you say to all the others who pick/choose what passages to agree to?

I mean its the word of god right?

The real truth is that they are not taking the Word of God literally. They twist it and contort it to suit their own desires and this "Phelps" is dragging people into his personal war on Homosexuality. The fact is that anyone can take one portion of a verse here and one portion of a verse there to make the Bible say whatever they want it to say. Context is everything. If you want a specific example, PM me and I can show you what I mean.

Franklin Graham put the Christian / Homosexuality debate best here in this interview - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl...ws/graham.html

I do get annoyed that fanatics like these ruin any good in, as you put it, "Religion". And when I speak out about it I get grouped in that Religious fanatic clan and I am the farthest from that. The fact is that I am glad for the litigation. I think this so called church should be punished for being stupid.

What they are really doing is reading the apocryphical books of the Bible in a way they were never intended to be read. Books like Revelation and Daniel, while seeming to depict a literal depiction of the end of the world are really written in a code that would be understood by Christians and Jews living in a time of persecution.

They also selectively use a quote from the Apostle Paul to back up their hate attacks on homosexuality. From what I've read, it doesn't appear that Paul was actually condemning homosexuals, but was instead condemning the practice of pedagogy in the Greek/Roman Churches which often had a pedophilic aspect to it.

I really have an incredulous dislike for the Phelps. If anyone is interested there is a great BBC documentary on youtube, "The Most Hated Family in America", by Louis Theroux. Just a fascinating look at the inside of the church.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The 'Old' Testament is full of that.

The 'New' is not.

Phelps is a Baptist....who in theory should be basing their beliefs on New Testament writings.

They are not.

Ignorance goes both ways it seems.

The Patriot Guard. They were in town during the hockey season last year, and the Mallards invited them to the game.

I won't really get into it, because it is an issue that I feel strongly about and I don't want to come off as 'preachy'. That being said, there are not many other people I detest more on the face of the earth than those that disgrace the sacrifices made by men and women who ultimately give their lives to defend what they believe in.

Exactly. 75 members.

It's a cult, for the lack of a better term.

Mr. Snyder doesn't care about the money. He wants other families to follow his lead and sue these scumbags and put them out of business.

After the verdict came down their 'church' was spray painted by some criminally misguided but well meaning Topekans with such slogans as "God Hates Intolerance".

Well done.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

If 'one' family has gotten money from them, more should follow suit.

It'll either bankrupt them, or force them by their own account to stop protesting.
