Its the new goth or punk thing (kind of a mix of the two). The "I don't fit in, so I'm going to be different by being the same different that everyone else is"

It's a derogatory term for a youth culture that makes a big deal out of their pain and suffering. The name is also tied to a particular brand of music that also follows that trend.
Basically, take the normal teenager full of typical angst, slap on some black clothes and size 3 jeans and add a dash of incredibly bad music and you've got your prototypical emo clown.

Some kids in to "emo" tend to take it too far and start cutting themselves. This is kinda rare, but it's part of the mystic.

 Teenagers are stupid.

Some kids in every clique start cutting themselves. I think it's far more prevalent than most people think.

I recently decided to stop wearing all Hollister and Abercrombie like 99% of the guys that go to my school do; this however qualified me as “emo”

When turning emo, always make sure your hair is covering your face.

Yeah, when I first heard the term "emo", and then saw HR's quote, I thought they were talking about Emo Phillips ; the comedian.

I love HR's sig. Probably the only one I chuckle at every single time I read it.

Peter Parker kinda turns emo in Spiderman 3, once he puts the Venom suit on. People in the theatre laughed out loud at certain points. http://www.aintitcool.com/images2006...3BlackSuit.jpg |
