Ummm that's a good thing isn't it?
Shouldn't we be encouraging kids to read, to question and to figure things out for themselves? Always thought that was a primary role of a parent.

Isnt religion really just a theory??? How dare they question it.. After all if it was written 2,000 years ago it has to be true.. Thats why I can't stand religious fanatics.. Its all about keeping the sheep in line..

Well I guess not every piece of literature is as heavy in Christian over tones as C.S. Lewis. Bill Donohue is a jackass and I guarantee he has not read the books or seen the movie, he is told by his staff what is a hot button issue and then goes to the media with it, rarely even reading the press releases he signs.

"These books denigrate Christianity, thrash the Catholic Church and sell the virtues of atheism," said Bill Donohue, president and CEO of the Catholic League.

Yeah it is. I remember when I read the book a couple years ago, at the end, I sat back and went "wow, I can't believe they went there" - its a critisism of all organized religions. The Book itself particularly explicitely critisizes the Roman Catholic Church.

I'll rewrite the first paragraph:
Quote:
The movie, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” is adapted from the first novel in a series called “The Chronicles of Narnia” by Irish author C. S. Lewis, an outspoken Christian. Critics fear that the film, due out in December, will encourage children to read the pro-Church series.

Where was the outcry then?

how can it be a conspiracy when the author is a known athiest and he wrote the book to be a counter point to all the christian children's books? I thought it was pretty obvious what the message was.

In the same way that J.K. Rowling is anti-christian because she writes about magic, wizards and other devilish things (especially that homosexuality!). These Christian groups just want press so they can sound louder then they actually are. They have misinterpreted the request to spread the word of god to mean "enforce the word of god on all you can".

I haven't read the books or seen the movie, but assuming this is true, there are plenty of children's book and movies that thrash atheism and sells the virtues Christianity. What's the difference? Christians don't have the exclusive rights to try and sell others on their philosophy.

I'd assume that from a Christian perspective, they realize that indoctrinating children at a young age is the only way they have a chance at holding the children's beliefs through their lives. I'd guess that the ratio of children who are raised atheist and convert to christianity at some point through their lives is fairly miniscule, compared to the ratio of children who are raised as christians but convert to atheism. Christianity really depends on that head-start.

Same thing could be said about LOTR.
Heard no outcry about it either....and Tolkien was a dedicated Christian as well.
Catholic too.

Indeed. These are fringe groups who don't have a clear grip on reality. They are great at grabbing press headlines, but beyond that their impact on society is rather minimal. My favorite is when they got together to burn a bunch of the Harry Potter books. I wonder how much money they contributed to Rowling's estate :P

Organized religion is like that for the most part.
