This law isn't the offence of prostitution. It's about doing the act in our communities, on the streets, in alleys, in playgrounds and parks. If it was about prositution they would be going after the escort agencies aswell.

Hilarius that you're arguing that it shouldn't take place in playgrounds and in communities, yet you don't want it cleaned up and moved into licensed establishments.

If your kids are running around and playing in an RLD, at 2a.m., I think that says more about you as a parent.

If you think this only happens at 2 am you might want to take your rose coloured glasses off. Not to mention the litter that is left behind on the streets and parks after these encounters.

Sorry dude... I just re-read your posts and see that you not only didn't say that, but have indicated that it isn't out of the question for you. Misunderstanding on my part.

I have no problem with legalizing prostitution, I think it should be licensed, taxed, and there should be benefits for the girls or guys doing it (medical coverage, drug rehab) with the idea of helping the prositutes into other professions.
The only thing that makes me double back on this premise, is that making it legal, means that the other prostitute related practices (underaged girls, slave imports etc), will be driven deeper underground due to the additional resources that will be put up against it.
the other issue is that there will always be pimps even if it becomes legal, its just that those pimps who live off of these prostitutes will now be under the guise of legal business entities which means that they will be protected under the law.

And if you think that's only leftovers from prostitution, then you need to take off your roese coloured glassess.

I met a guy in Amsterdam that blew through 700 euro in an afternoon in the red light district.
He was bragging about this.

Well, assuming each hooker is worth 100 euro, then that's 7 hookers in an afternoon. That's an impressive dispaly of endurance.

What a dumb program... glad my tax dollars are hard at work towing guys cars who proposed consensual sex for cash to someone in the trade. There's nothing... NOTHING better for a cop in this city to do than bust Johns? Must be a pretty slow city...

Dude, what is your problem? I said the litter from these activities is ddisgusting and shouldn't be left in our community. Did I say anywhere that these activities are the sole responsibility for this litter? NO. Unbelievable.

There is a much larger issue here than two adults having consensual sex for money. Almost all prostitutes (especially the street walkers) have been manipulated and controlled from from a very young age. Taken advantage of becuase of family issues and unfortunate life events. Deliberatly hooked on drugs as a form of control. Almost all money made from their trade goes to the pimp for handling services and drug debts. It is literally a slave master relationship. In many cases foreigners are smuggled into the country and to pay off that debt are forced into prostitution. The debt is so high in many cases that they will most likely not be paid back because of interest charges and the fact that they will have died due to many of the STD's and the inherent danger of the trade. Not to mention the problems that I have discussed above.
But your right, it is all consensual and the police have no business in interfering with two consenting adults.

Thats a pretty ignorant comment.
My route in to downtown takes me down 1st St or 2nd St SW. North of 17th Ave, theres often times hookers out on the street. Sometimes I come in at 6am and theres girls out with guys stopping to pick them up. Theyre also there in the afternoons on my way home.
A lot of these girls look like teenagers. Most of them look so drugged out they cant even walk straight.
I take essentially the same route every day so you see the same people every day. You can see when a new girl hits the street. But give it a month or two, you can still recognize her but she looks like shes aged 10 years in that time.
You can also see the pimps watching them and the druggies and the dealers hanging out in the same area. Then theres the needle disposal boxes in the parks in the area.
I feel sorry the people that live in the area. I think youre attitude would change if you lived in this area and had hookers and druggies outside your front door.
Towing cars wont solve the social problems but it will hopefully make guys think twice before cruising the streets for girls. If you get the guys to stop cruising, the girls will go elsewhere. Thats the point of this.
This isnt Pretty Woman. Theres nothing pretty about this. Go for a walk or drive thru these areas... even in the day time. Its pretty gross when you see a girl with meth scabs all over her face getting picked up by a guy in his company truck or better yet the guy with a minivan who probably has a wife at home.
This isnt Pretty Woman.

^good points but then shouldn't we be focusing on solving the root problems that led to the girls having those drug problems and what not? As long as those problems are prevelent there will be prostitution and johns picking up prosititutes.

Right... so why aren't we going after pimps instead of Johns? You're pretty much spelling out who's at fault (pimps), but then whole-heartedly support going after Johns?

This isn't the John's fault though... if anything you're supporting the cops going after the one source of income these people have. What do you think these women do if they're not hooking? Join the secretarial pool? Become teachers?
What do you think will 'fix' hooking? A harsh crack-down policy on Johns? That's working really well on drugs so far...

Yes... the police do have no business in interfering with two consenting adults. If one adult is forced into the situation then it's no longer consenting, it's rape. Places like the Netherlands have legalized sex trade and everything seems consensual as far as I can tell... maybe (probably) the issue here is we're so backwards concerning sex legislation.
I agree that hooking (as it currently stands legally) = bad... I just don't agree that taking Johns cars away = fixing the problem. At all.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does this have to do with taking John's cars away as 'fixing' the prostitution trade in Calgary?

Well... I lived on 5th st 15 ave SW for several years, walked by many a prostitute every day myself... so I doubt my attitude will change.

Well... if it doesn't work to deter prostitution in Calgary (and I seriously doubt it will), then the point is a poor one. When you say 'the girls will go elsewhere', is this the end-point of your solution? They'll move along to another neighbourhood? Or do you think the cops will drive them clear out of the city? Maybe even the whole province?

Yeah, thanks for that, and here my ignorant ass assumed every prostitute's story was just like Pretty Woman.
My main (ignorant) point is that taking Johns cars away does not fix the prostitution problem in Calgary. Cracking down harder on illegal trades (sex/drugs) has not proven effective in eliminating them. The demand for paid-sex is insatiable, supply will always exist in some form, unfortunately. Legalization is probably better for the women's health and well-being, in the end, then a crack-down policy.
Just my two cents, I've clearly been shown to be stupid already though, so take it for what it's worth.
