Default End of the Western Standard?

I recently read an tiny blurb in our free crappy Vancouver bus paper. It said that the Western Standard is no longer going to be in print. Is this true? I have a subscription and I have received no information. The website is not much help either. According to the article it should be available online in the near future.

Any Standard fans out there?
What do you think of this supposed move to an online version?
Will you miss the print version of Canada's most hilariously right newsmag?
Is Ezra's bow tie cool or lame?

Vive la Steen!
(Totally should have bought the shirt when I had the chance)

Never read the magazine, but I happened to hear about 5 minutes of discussion on Rutherford a wekk or so ago. He was talking to Ezra Levant and one guy called in and asked if his subscription would be reimbursed. Levant said No. He was pretty diplomatic about it, but the answer was no.

At least there's still the National Enquirer and Us magazine.

The WS had a clear editorial slant and that impacted their objectivity but the death of an independent newsmagazine that wasn't owned by one of the two or three mega media corporations - that's not a good thing. Not if you believe in having a variety of perspectives out there.

Why publish a magazine when you can get nearly the same distribution with a fraction of the costs by throwing up a simple blog and providing some add space?

Unfortunately, I doubt we have heard the last of Ezra...

You gotta keep in mind who the target audience is/was.

Good riddance, if true. They are still peddling the paper subscription on their website.

Well, if someone has a leftist lean, they aren't going to like the western standard. Just like if someone has a right wing leaning, they aren't going to like the various publications geared to that crowd.

With that, there were some good articles in that magazine (especially Mark Steyn) and more often than not, a lot of what they said provoked serious thought and discussion. I respected their decision with the cartoons because it brought to light a societal double standard. There's nothing wrong with independent publications and free speech. Don't like it, don't read it. I wouldn't wipe my ass with Dose, but I don't begrudge people the right to read it. Like Jiri said, losing an independent publisher is never a good thing.

Of course, on the other hand, there were many articles (Byfield's mostly) that were probably more worthy of lining a birdcage than polluting my mind.
