Default **RUMOR-- iPhone in Canada Dec 7**

As the title states, huge rumor at this point, nothing confirmed, and really, it's just a post on some guys blog.. But if there is any truth to this, it would be perfect timing, since my contract with Telus is up around that time, and I was looking at getting an unlocked iPhone, and using rogers anyway..

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/...-december-7th/

And related.. what could possibly be the reason that the iPhone didn't launch in canada at the same time as the US.

Is there anywhere to get an unlocked iPhone at a decent price?

I was just going to purchase it from this place http://www.puremobile.ca/. Ebay may be another place to buy it from, but I haven't looked on there at all.

I doubt this will happen, they don't even have the rights to use the name in this country yet...

I've seen that site too. It just seems expensive because the iPhone sells for $400 in the US. I might just end up waiting till Rogers is selling it.

Well, you could just go to the states and buy it, and unlock it yourself. Which is kind of what I was thinking of doing. But apple has decided that you cannot purchase the iPhone with cash any more.. It must be a credit or debit card.

I dont see it happening. One of the main factors its not here aside from the above name issue is that Rogers doesnt offer a plan close to anything that Apple wants for it to be used. For example in the US they have unlimited data plans we've got nothing close to that. Even the minutes we'd be paying a ridiculous amount for. Until Apple gets Rogers to break on one of these its not going to happen

Just because rogers doesn't currently have a plan like AT&T has in the states, doesn't mean that they wont in the future.

Well seeing how there plans are light years apart it means it wont be for a while. The similar kind of iphone plan up here would be over 100 dollars a month. Rogers continues to rip off people in Canada cause they have no other gsm competition. The reason the phone was linked to at&t was because Apple got what they requested, Rogers feels they would loose money if they offered the similar which is a crock. We're light years behind the States which are still behind Europe.

Agreed. I've read reports that said telecom companies could cut rates in half and still make profit...Not sure how accurate they were though. In any event, people jump all over oil companies for 'price gouging', while the truth is telecom is much more guilty of the act.

I want to see the iPhone in Canada as much as the next guy, but Rogers is the most money hungry company in the country, and if they can't charge what they want, the phone stays out, unfortunately.

That's not a big deal, I would only need one anyways, and they'll take VISA. Unlocking it would be the difficult part.

I agree with this completely. The general consensus is the ad is a fake:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1267270

There has been so many rumored dates all of which have come and gone, its a little tiresome now.
Rogers do have adjust their very expensive data rates when and if the iphone ever gets here.

Yea its ridiculous. They would make a killing even if they came out with similar plans to the states. The amount of people would either commit to 3 year contracts or upgrade to them would be astounding but they know if a iphone plan has unlimited data than all there loyal Blackberry plans would eventually have to have the same and they wouldn't be gouging people enough for there liking.

haha, not quite. $90 for 25mb. And that hardly gets you a sufficient talk plan. Most crackberry users pay about $140-160 a month to feed their addiction.

The new N95 Black 8gb is a nice alternative depending on what you are looking for. In my case, I'm buying it!

Rogers released a terse statement stating that the ad is false; there is no news about the iPhone in Canada.

I want one. And I'd go through the bother of unlocking one if not for the fact that I'd end up paying $2,695/month to Rogers in data fees.

I've given up on this country ever getting the iPhone given that our government has seen fit to allow Bell/Rogers to maintain their oligopoly and rake in huge gigantic profits while giving crap service. That has lead to the backwater 3rd world telecommunications service we currently have.

I agree with you. But I was going to buy a touch, since it is pretty much the first iPod that I have wanted to buy.
But since my plan with telus is up soon, i could get a crappy GSM phone from rogers, and just swap the sim cards.
Yah, I wouldn't be able to surf the web and such. But I figure i could just use it as an ipod / phone until rogers decides to get their head out of the asses. Or i move to the states / europe.
