That said, bittorrent traffic should not be treated/shaped any differently then any other type of traffic. If Comcast is allowed to continue doing this, we will see further restrictions come in that will actually start harming free commerce and transmission of information. What would stop Comcast from delaying all traffic headed towards rivals?

We must keep the tubes open and free of any tolls!
The problem here is, Comcast's limit is not advertised anywhere yet they advertise unlimited bandwidth.

I don't like it when the tubes are clogged up but all data should be treated equally.

Very little at the time and even less now, but the point remains the same. Monopolies dominate, and it takes giant shifts in peoples thinking and actions to change that.

That comment was made about 10 years ago, so he was ahead of his time, but it's looking more and more relavent all the time. What was Open Source softwares market share 10 years ago vs today?.. Legal sharing Vs illegal sharing...

I never said stealing stuff is the right thing to do, I said the IP system is flawed, broken and out of date. "Intelectual Property" should be common so people have to figure out how to profit from the information not figure out how to be the only one to profit using that information.

From Drugs, to Software, to Art, to Religon. The IP/Copyright system is supposed to foster innovation and protect thoes ideas, when all it does in it's current form is stifle innovation, reduce productivity and provide a legal playground for people who like to play that game.

I think the ever increasing number of people, forming open source groups, "Stealing" art, and who are not able to afford drugs, is a pretty clear sign thats theres a large number of others who think it's broken as well.

Speaking of Open Source and making money....

Mozilla Foundation announced revenue of $66.8 million for the 2006 year (and expenses of $19.7 million). Not bad for an open source foundation.

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...-for-2006.html

And back on topic - Comcast says they are just "delaying" the data (by sending back reset packets). I'm not sure the Lotus Notes users are too happy about that. People should bee getting what they pay for, the ISP should supply the service they sell regardless of the type of data they sell. Otherwise, they should spell out exactly what they are selling.

Ars Technica has in interesting article about an ISP Co-op that has been set up in Toronto. If they were in Calgary I would definitely sign up.

I have also read that they are sending fake requests to the tracker on behalf of the client so the tracker will boot them off or keep them from connecting.

Interesting site. I personally would never join to something like that but entrepaneurs who go out and make money instead of suckling off the welfare teet deserve my support whether I agree with the situation or not.
