Crazy Hurricane force Santa Ana winds are fueling 6 fires in Southern California today - it is crazy!! We has been dusky since noon today there is so much smoke in the air. Pepperdine University has been closed, we have had a few trees blown down in our area

Hard to imagine how fast those fires must be moving with winds that hard. How close to you are they?

The winds have died down for now but they will pick up in a few hours and who knows what will happen with all these fires at that point. My skies have been dark since about 3:30 this afternoon when the smoke got thick enough in the sky to block out the sun. Its impossible to be outdoors for more than a few minutes, I don't feel like I can breathe out there.

supposed to be heading to San Diego tomorrow. any update on that far south? I know some in the county were evacuated??

250,000 have been asked to evacuate in San Diego county - the report is for high winds through to tomorrow afternoon. I believe Arnie has declared a state of emergency as the fire fighters are stretched to the limits.. I live about 30 miles North of the Malibu fires and it sucked big time walking the dog today, the air is so smoky.

Its not a good idea to be outdoors for any extended period of time. I'm pretty much under dark skies again, started in the last half hour or so. Schools have been cancelled tomorrow because the Castaic fire is following the same path it did 4 years ago and the winds make the timetable for its arrival here very unpredictable.

I'm not sure about what the fire situation is in San Diego, the news today has been dominated by the LA and Orange County fires.

I know it's been years, but it's still so strange to see The Terminator on TV saying things like "I declare a state of emergency".

There's a link for updates on fire area and evacuations in the area. Encinitas doesn't appear to be under evacuation right now, but it appears to be in the coverage area for potential warnings. If you know someone who lives in the area, the local news down there is probably providing better information.

This absolutely sucks.

6 of us are going on a "guys trip" down to L.A and San Diego over the Rememberance Day long weekend.

We have tickets to see UCLA vs Arizona State at the Rose Bowl in L.A. and also tickets to see the Chargers vs Colts on the Sunday in San Diego.

At this point, we are debating whether or not to abort mission based on the events down there. We are following the events closely, hoping the situation improves, but it looks like it is just getting worse.

Those living in those areas, please keep me updated!

Okay, there are 300000 people evacuated from their homes in SD County, thousands are in shelter at Qualcomm Stadium, where the Chargers play. Many have lost their homes and all possessions. I don't think those folks are going to be giving you an update anytime soon so you can plan your vacation.

Apparently, something like 2500 homes have been destroyed so far, or so they said on the News. 1 Million people have been evacuated, too. Sounds like the fires are getting quite out of hand.

The situation here (LA Area) is much improved today. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena should be no problem. None of the fires were anywhere near there. Remembrance Day is like the second week of November, right? Chance are good that these fires will be contained by then, there will probably be thick marine layer and maybe even light rain before that weekend.

The Chargers game is a different issue because that stadium is being used as an evacuation center. Even if the fires are out by then, they may change their schedule and play in Arizona if there are still evacuees staying there who lost their homes. Regardless of the fire situation, it might be worth a phone call to Qualcomm to get clarification on any schedule changes they are anticipating. There are just so many people evacuated down there.
