Default Gore criticizes Bush for ignoring Iraq's ties to terrorism

An interesting video clip, this clip from the early 90's makes it sound like the current George Dubya is parroting an early Gore:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=5

And another intriguing clip of Cheney's take on why the U.S. should not invade Iraq from the early 90's:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT7Ik_X1HU0

It's amazing how the tables have turned. These 2 clips demonstrates how the 2 parties in the States are cut from the same mold.

The first clip also makes Al Gore's Nobel peace prize even more laughable.

Why is it such a stretch that Al Gore would latch onto Global Warming for political gain? Anybody who thinks that Al Gore is anybody other than a political opportunist is a myopian.

I'm not a Bush/Republican fan either.

If Gore was an opportunist then why hasn't he put his hat in for president again?

Great find on the videos btw. It's not surprising really, to see the two parties as two sides of the same coin. They'll do and say whatever gets them the votes at any given time. All politicians are opportunists when it comes to deciding which issues they'll argue for or against.

Shouldn't the thread title be Gore criticized Bush for ignoring Iraq's ties to terrorism?

The whole Democrat/Republican dynamic has been flipping for quite some time now. It used to that the Democrats were a party that supported the idea of nation building and extreme foreign policy. The Republicans used to be isolationists. In fact, it was Kennedy's policies in Iraq that started the motions of supporting a Baathist controlled Iraq. Later on, the Republicans under Reagan strengthened this policy which probably had a lot to do with Bush Sr.'s unwillingness to remove Saddam Hussein.

The irony is pretty astonishing that many of the "conservatives" who support the current Republican party under Bush are in fact supporting foreign policies that are not conservative in their nature.

Could have been, should have been....hindsight is 20/20.

Interesting take on the situation FA.

The whole situation, including American politics in general has become so frustrating that I just ignore it these days.

The one candidate I'm excited for(Obama)...well things aren't looking so good for him right now. Maybe Hillary will in fact get into power.

I guess the opportunity for profit wasn't there for Cheney at the time.

Because he knows alot of people hate him. He and Clinton may be the only 2 possible nominees who give the Republicans a good chance of controling the white house again next term.

Exactly....so why can't Hillary bow out and put all her weight behind Obama?

*sigh*

That, and right now, the next US President has a lot of clean up to do. Clean up which might take a very long time to materialize. Al Gore seems to have become a total opportunist and spotlight seeker. Becoming the President now is not an opportunity that will add to his "legacy" right now.

Well it's a stretch because he has been an environmentalist for a long time. Unless you are referring to his "latch for political gain" happened in the eighties then your point is misinformed.

I don't think giving speeches is nearly as lucrative as war-profiteering.
