Clockwise or Counterclockwise?

clockwise for me, I called my wife in the room to see what she saw and she saw counter-clockwise (bust she's weird )

OK, apparently my brain is locked left side. I don't know how it can be anything other than counter clockwise. You can easily tell front from back on the model (nice figure btw) and the arc of her foots shadow is always counter-clockwise.

Weird! I had someone watch the image along with me. She would see it go counter and I would see the opposite. In some instances I would see the image go back and forth between counter and clockwise and she would not see what I was pointing out.

open two pages and have them spin side by side. Are they in sync or opposite? That's how I could see them going the opposite way.

You can get it to flip if you look at the leg and imagine what it would look like going in the opposite direction. So from your perspective, as the leg crosses over in front of the model, try to imagine that the leg is actually crossing behind rather than in front.

Don't even know if that makes sense, but that is how I can get the image to flip back and forth fairly easily.

That makes sense, what you "see" in a lot of ways dictated by what you expect to see. The shadows, the movements, etc all give clues about what's going on and the brain fills in the rest. It's a rotating black 2D image yet we see the spinning in 3D because our brain has developed to see that.

If you imagine the leg going across the front rather than the back, or focus on the shadow where the visual clue is different, then your brain switches so you see the other rotation.

Or something like that anyway; what we sense of the world isn't like cameras and microphones and hard drives; it's very inaccurate and malleable, based on history of being prey and survival, making fast judgments and reacting to danger, all that jazz.

This is really pissing me off lol. I can only see clockwise and I have no idea how it can be anything else. I have literally been staring at it for 20 minutes. I mean, you can see her facing you and see that her right leg is in the air, and then it turns to the right. I guess I have limited perception.

I can get it to change as long as I read the text and only follow the image in my peripheral. Then I can decide which way the leg is going, and voila! It switches. Looking directly at the image I can't get it to switch, though.

Think about how pissed off it's making you. The more emotion you start letting control your thoughts, the more likely you'll start processing your perception in your right brain.

Or just pull the peter pan trick and think of your happy place.

Get someone to watch it with you. That's how it worked for me.

I see ONLY clockwise...went back to it after a few minutes, and still only see clockwise.

AHHH...This just blew my mind. I saw clockwise only at first, but now I can get it to switch back and forth at will.
