I really enjoyed last nights episode, some people had some really strange ideas that would probably never work. The brother and sister from atomic really intrigued me. I have watched this show on and off whenever I remember it is on, and I have never seen all 5 dragons want to be in on one idea. This bodes well for the brother and sister to be very successful with their franchise. I've never had anything to drink from atomic but I might have to make a trip down there and try it.

I agree the tea presentation from last night was pretty successful. Anyone on here actually tried it?
The last show from season 1 was an update on the various presenters and investments from that season. I expect they'll do the same for this season.

In season one, the one investment fell apart for a group of university students after their faculty mentor started insulting one of the Dragons. Really, the whole pitch is just to get rolling. Then the actual due diligence starts and like real business it's where many deals fall apart.

According to Wikipedia (i know i know) it was actually a show started on Japanese television that has now been brought to other countries.

Ah cool, I must have missed that episode. What was the student idea you're talking about? Was it that jobloft.com site? Were there any deals that turned into successful ventures?

one of the problems that I have with many University professors, especially those in the Management faculty. Lots of text books smarts, but street smarts, not so much!
and in that particulary scenario, the faculty mentor was out to lunch. It was arrogant of him to pull that stunt with the Dragons, and the one ripped the cheque up, right there on the board room table.
welcome to the real world, mr, professor!

speaking of which, last night was a perfect example of how deals can fall apart in a matter of seconds.

the Atomic Tea people had more money offered to them along with a minority interest in the company, than they had orginally asked for. and as soon as "big mouth" got involved, that deal fell apart in a matter of seconds.
I personally thought that was nasty, but thats what can happen in business.
Personally, I thought they should have gone with the lady taht offered the money they wanted for a 40% interest in the company, when it was initally offered.

fair enough, but how much better could it have been with those kinds of individuals pushing that business with the clout they have.

I mean, there is two sides to every scenario/deal. it could have very well fallen apart too, but I just felt that the professor was too arrogant.
the Dragons were coming in and taking control and he felt like he was being pushed out. which essential was the case, but if I recall he didnt have a stake in the company anyways.

I agree 100%. But I of course have the benefit of hindsight.

I don't know if I could have taken her deal in just a matter of seconds like that. With that lady outbidding one of her fellow dragons, it seemed like things were really starting to go their way before all the dragon's had a chance to speak. In that situation I may well have thought that one of the other dragons would outbid the lady dragon for an even better deal and want to see what they all had to say before accepting her deal. Unfortunately for them, Kevin realized too quickly that the dragons had more to gain from working with each other than against each other.

I wondered that myself, as I think the CEO of Boston Pizza has probably more than double the woprk hours of the average Canadian. They implied that the only expertise they gleemed from the dragons was dealing with lawyers and the hefty bills in hammering out a deal.
interesting, its kinda nice to hear some of the behind the scenes stuff.

Great score! I have met the blogger behind this (Kempton) and he is (obviously) a bit fanatical about the Dragon's Den...in a good way

Yep, it was really tough making an on-the-spot decision with so many deal offering coming at us in such a short period of time. But it was really important to us to try to get all of the five dragons on-board with *atomic. Thanks, guys!

Wow, cool. I'm assuming you're one of the two from the show. Can you give us any updates on what's happened since the show was taped? Have you worked much with the dragons?

wow, hey congrats!
I bet it hasnt been an easy process. A lot of it seems like its a made for tv thing with all the melodrama that goes along with it.
what I wonder is, how does it really play into the business aspect of it.
Or are these "Dragons" just making themselves look good for TV.
either way, well done!
am looking forward to trying your product, next time I am in Calgary.

I think this was the real reason. As continuing on as the mentor/director of the company he had a chance, and a very good one, to get a stake in the company by using his influence etc. With the Dragons that was going to go away and he saw his chances to potentially cash in down the road evaporate.

I was surprised to find out that Atomic was a local company and not a chain from out East or the states... I had been there for a Vietnamese sub once before but after seeing the show and realizing it was a local Brother and Sister trying to make a go of things I vowed to have more lunches from there... I don't know why... I guess I just like the idea of supporting a small business better...

I went there for lunch today and recognized the sister and asked what "tea" the dragons had and so I'm drinking a pina-colada(sp?) right now and enjoying a Vietnamese sub... after I mentioned the dragons we talked a bit, the show was taped in June and they are still working out paper work and details with the dragons, her brother was there as well but he has shaved his head since the taping and so I did not recognize them.

Its funny I have walked by that store a hundreds times over the last year and gone in once but I have never seen it busy and I was in there pretty early for a lunch crowd but by the time my sub and tea was ready there was a line up out the door - something I have never seen before - so I commented that if nothing it was good advertising... she agreed saying that was what they figured, worst case scenario it was on TV

Hey all! I'm glad to see there are so many Flames fans who are also Dragons' Den fans- what a great combo!

What did you guys think of this week's episode? We had a lot of talk on the Dragons' Den Forums about 10 year old Vikram and his successful pitch.
