Default Rugby World Cup

Surprised nothing has been mentioned about this on here yet. But Australia and New Zealand both massively upset and eliminated on the same day! All Blacks choke yet again, wow they just never put it together in the RWC.

Down here there has been much talk of the southern hemisphere dominating over the northern hemisphere but with England and France knocking out Australia and New Zealand I think that will shut them up a bit.

yeah, I thought about starting a thread on this a few times. That is a shocking day though. England looks pretty solid to repeat at this point.

France is always strong. I don't know why I never think of them as a powerhouse, but they are.

Well this is the second time that France has knocked out the All Blacks, so I guess its more even now than it was years ago.

The Southern hemisphere has dominated with "running rugby" for so long, but it appears that syle-wise the North has caught up to some extent.

I have an Australian uncle staying at my place right now, he lives in Calgary but is originally from Brisbane. He's been getting text messages from family and friends back home about the loss, he's pretty shocked.

The next two tilts should be pretty good.

France vs. England should be fairly even, although I give France the edge especially playing at home.

Argentina vs. South Africa could be an upset, if Argentina beating anyone is considered an upset any more after they have defeated the likes of France, Wales, and Scotland already in this tournament. I am hopeful the Bokkies will win, but I have seen them piss away games so many times before.

I predict an Argentina v. France final, a rematch of the opening game of the tournament in which Argentina shocked France with the upset.

I would like to see Argentina make it through, just because it would be cool to watch an underdog finish the job.

Also, Argentina is not that much better than Canada, which kind of gives me hope that one day we can make a run!

England advances to the final, and looks to be the first team ever to defend its RWC championship title.

I'm incredibly surprised that England made it to the final again. They were playing terribly going into the world cup and have defied the odds making it this far. In fact nobody in England expected this team to do well at the WC. Jonny Wilkinson has made a huge difference to the team and his presence alone could turn the tide in their favour. England's #10 could provide the ultimate revenge against the team that spanked England 36-0 in the round robin. That said, if I was a betting man then smart money is on the Boks.

Go England anyway!

Except for the fact that he can actually play defence as well as put points on the board.

In Flames terms:

Habana = Huselieus
Wilkinson = Iginla

Now there's something I never expected. An analogy comparing Jonny Wilkinson to Jarome Iglina. Me likes! Nice one BBS.

Since the English football team blew it today against the Russians it's done to the rugby team to do us proud......again.

Does anyone know what time (Calgary time) the game is on Saturday, and where one might watch it? Or do I have to order the Setanta channel?

I think that the only way that you can get any of the games has been PPV. Sportsnet used to carry the games in years past, but I guess they've decided not to this time around...kind of sucks actually. What else is on at 5am?!

Thanks for the info on that - from this Shaw PPV document, it looks like it'll be on at 1pm our time Saturday. Damn, I'm going to be playing in a volleyball tournament.
