Who are you voting for to be Mayor? I'm voting for Sandy Jenkins
This might dissuade some who read my views on this site from doing the same, but his platform seems solid and basically in line with my views.
I have no vested interest in this candidate (and I've actually never met him)...I just like the mans ideas and I'm a concerned citizen. Here is his website to see his platform:

I just figured that this needs another thread as the other has a lot of different races in it!

I'm uninformed, therefore I will not be voting.
I like to have my voice heard when it's time to vote, but I've been way to busy to follow anything lately...

I'm still trying to figure out why some candidates (Jenkins included) want to route the C-Train West leg to MRC. There is a huge population, and it's growing, at the end of Bow Trail.

He makes excellent points about the LRT. The West LRT not coinciding with MRC is quite stupid. However, the targeted area is not exactly sparsely populated either. Also, the downtown LRT does belong underground. Taking a road away from drivers as well as clogging a train by having traffic lights was bad planning to begin with.
Seeing as he mentioned nothing about intracity driving conditions, I have to assume he doesn't have any good ideas about smart growth and moderation. If he did, they'd be front and centre, right? Lets face it, transit doesn't work for going between quadrants, it was designed for downtown traffic. Essentially, I'd leave the LRT planning to getting people from the burbs to downtown, and focus on roads to get vehicles (and buses) everywhere else without gridlock. I'd like to see special parkades built and direct downtown LRT lines. (ie: Building big parking complexes off of Deerfoot and Crowchild and having LRT cars shuttle people directly from that lot to Downtown)
I'm a little concerned with all this basement suite talk as well. I think it will only produce slumlords, clog up parking in unsuitable neighborhoods, an excuse for rent to go up, not down, as well as raise the cost of home ownership by flooding the lower end. The city should be more concerned with pushing medium density and mixed income suburbs, hi-rise condos, and punishing bad developments. I'd like to hear a candidate talk about making developers accountable for new roads and not choking the life out of existing ones. I'd also look at extending the LRT into the satellite cities and squeezing money from them and the counties. They use it anyway without tax money paying for it. (ie: commuters drive from Okotoks -> Bridlewood, Cochrane -> Crowfoot, Airdrie -> Whitehorn)
I hate to admit it, but I'll probably vote for Bronco. I like how he thoroughly embarassed Stelmach and brought urban infrastructure issues to the forefront.

It's likely to gain the student vote. The GO plan has already been designed and it's not too likely that massive changes will occur.

Everybody who goes to MRC DRIVES! Even if the train went there they wouldn't take it.
Besides.. There is an area on the SW corner of the intersection of Bow Trail and Sarcee (Strathcona side) that has been zoned for an LRT platform since forever ago!

I think I'll be voting for Alnoor. I think his platform is the best and is most in line with the direction I would like to see this city head in. He does seem genuinely interested in the welfare of the city. My runner up is Jenkins, but I feel his plans for the city are less realistic (mostly transit related). But on the other hand he doesn't have question marks on his past like Alnoor does. Either way I don't expect either candidate to win, but it would nice to actually have an election in this crazy province where someone doesn't win by a landslide.

I think the angle Jenkins is going for is the student vote. Not to mention the obvious counterpoint, "would all MRC students drive if they had a choice?" Right now, they either drive, or take overcrowded buses that service the overflow at Bishop Carroll, Central Memorial, Marguerite Bourgeoys (sp), as well as the Hospitals. Its a huge detour and it takes over an hour (at least to get south). I don't think the LRT would do a lot better, but it would be a viable option. LRT is much more efficient than buses.

Is there an article or link that neatly summarizes for comparison all of the candidates' positions on different issues?

I'll vote for Alnoor when he gives Kenya back it's $24 million. (or when he leaves me a briefcase full of cash)

I think I'll be voting for Jenkins as well. I don't care much about the LRT situation, but I do like that he seems passionate about doing something about the homelessness situation in Calgary. I heard an interview on the radio where we talked about it and I was very impressed.
BTW, when is the vote?

Yeah, that's what happens when you don't have a choice.
The school is set to become Calgary's second University....its prominence will only grow, and has to be looked at as such. Nevermind the fact, that whole neighborhood will have a lot more high-density construction similar to Garrison Woods in the future. One way or another MRC should hook up to the LRT.

Alnoor seems like a real "hidden agenda" candidate to me. His secondary suite idea seems more like "jobs for the boys" (being more gouging for his real estate owning buddies on the backs of renters) and less about empathy. His shady background sure doesn't help.

Noor and Jenkins are both better options that Bronco...Unfortunately this city and province re-elect almost religiously.
As far as the Ctrain to MCR(U?? haha) goes, I think it's still important to make it an option for the students.
I LOVE Jenkins' proposal to subway the LRT downtown. If I'm correct there's actually already a partially finished tunnel by City Hall that was axed in the 80's after Edmonton's problems.
EDIT: HAHA! There ARE other Juventus Fans! woo!

Like I said, he has some question marks. But with the Kenya stuff, even the Canadian government agrees with Alnoor, so that's good enough for me. I am not going to automatically side with what a shady government like Kenya says about people owing them money.
Who is second in the polls? Alnoor or Jenkins?

I'll also be voting for Jenkins. Bronco seems to think the only solution to over-population is more urban sprawl and Alnoor is a thief.

Problem is that for the money it costs to put the downtown portion of the LRT underground, you could almost build an entire new leg. Is it worth it at this stage? Hard to say...

My checklist is pretty simple:
- Not Bronco
- Not a fan of bribery (at least publically)
- Seems to have accomplished something in life
Sandy it is.
