Default Putting the "Nash" in Nashville

Pending league approval, the Nashville Predators have acquired forward Rick Nash and Marek Malik from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In exchange the Penguins receive Mike Cammalleri and Bryan McCabe.

"I really hate to move a player with the upside potential of Cammy" said GM Slava. "Truthfully though, Rick Nash is a pretty even trade in our eyes. He is a solid top six forward in our organization and gives us some added grit. He is truly a franchise player."

"Dealing Bryan is a loss to the power play unit in some respect, but we got back Malik who is a solid defender and should step right in to try to fill those shoes." Coach Vigneault was pleased with the new additions for the most part, "Its tough to have a deal like this after all the pre-season games are complete and the roster is set. I'm very excited to have Rick in the line-up though, and we'll play with the lines through the next few days."

The deal breaks down as follows:

To Pittsburgh:

Mike Cammalleri (78 OV)
Bryan McCabe (79OV)

To Nashville:

Rick Nash (79OV)
Marek Malik (77OV)
$2 Million

I like this trade for Pittsburgh. Cammalleri is a stud.

Yeah, I'm with Neil. I'd much rather have Calamari...

Less then a day after the Pens had decided to keep Rick Nash, the Nashville Predators came knocking and within a matter a minutes a deal was struck. Although the Pens seemed to find chemistry in their last two wins, the team felt that a shake up was in order. It was tough to move a franchise player in Nash as we paid a lot to get him earlier this offseason and he was in our longterm plans. However we feel that he never really fit into our playing style. We want to play a fast high tempo skilled game and we feel that Cammy is a better fit now into that system. Malik was also a great PK and shutdown guy, but we don't play that system in Pittsburgh. Our plan is to play all offense and let Louie bail us out. So this trade hurts on the DF end but adds some skill to our team and hopefully will increase our offensive output.

The Jets are disappointed to see Nash get moved. We feel we made a good solid offer but the Pens chose a different offer and we respect that.
