Default Frigidaire

I was looking at appliances for my new place and it turns out I can't afford 95% of what is out there. I found a pretty good set of Frigidaire proffesional series appliances in a price range that I can at least stomach.

I have heard to stay away from frigidaire... any thoughts or opinions?

I have a Frigidaire Wall mounted oven from their Professional series. So far, so good, and the convection feature works great. I didn't think it was worth the big upgrade in price to Bosch/Kitchenaid like the rest of my kitchen.

Check out Consumer reports, they had a great section on appliance reliability. It was interesting to see how some manufacturers excel at one thing, and suck at the next.

It was also interesting to see how some of the "high end" appliances like Wolf and Thermador sucked for reliability.

I, like you, was on a bit of a budget when I had to buy appliances. I ended up going all Kenmore. Imo, it was the best price to quality ratio.

Years ago when I used to sell appliances; Frigidaire came back as an entry level alternative. I don't have an issue with most of their appliances; and would consider buying them myself- in fact the house I bought has a Frigidaire fridge and stove. A couple of decisions made by the company; I could see the end result making some consumers calling their products "crap."

A classic example- dishwashers. 7 years ago they had 2 claims to fame- the quietest dishwashers on the market and used less electricity. Sounds good- right? They did it by dropping the motor from the standard 1/2 HP to 1/3 HP. So the trade off there was twice the normal length for a wash cycle.

A few other cost saving suggestions:

- Call up a store and as to speak to their comercial sales dept. When you get them, tell them your realtor told them to call them about comercial pricing. Most comercial sales people either have so many leads out there, or really don't care how they get the deal.

- Laundry; does the washer and dryer need to match for you? If not; most dryers that have two drying temps will do similar jobs. But a washer that is higher end will save you money on wear and tear on clothes.

- Stove. If you have kids then get a self cleaning oven. Not for the cleaning part of it, but because of the insulation. When your wife is baking cookies and little Timmy wants to have a closer look; the insulation on a S/C oven will result in him being stung and actually being burned.

We've bought a lot of Kenmore stuff over the years, not because it's the best, but because it's affordable and Sears' service, warranty and willingness to stand behind their products have more than made up for any shortcomings in quality. With Sears, you know that if you're not happy with a product you buy, they'll see to it you get satisfaction. At least that's been our experience.

I have Frigidaire fridge, gas stove, dishwasher (all pro series) and i-wash front load washer and dryer and they have been great for me so far. I was selling appliances a year or 2 ago and the product wasn't looked down upon as a budget alternative. Sure, it's not Sub-Zero, Wolf or Meile but the price point reflects that. My parents have far more troubles with their Maytag stuff than I have with my Frigidaires.

If you don't really care if its all matching and such go check out the Sears outlet at Deerfoot Mall. You can get some pretty sweet deals there and they are not all refurbished...some are brand new but the last few remaining. They have a variety of brands that Sears carries, but more Kenmore than anything else.

This is also a good place to go if you don't care whether the washer and dryer match.

Kenmore is just a brand name. I think they tend to get made at the same factory that makes Frigidaire or Whirlpool, sometimes Maytag. Based on whoever gives them the best quote. From what I understand a lot of these appliances actually are manufactured in the same place and the brand name is simply a badge.

I wouldn't recommend Fridgidaire dishwashers, but you get what you pay for I guess.

Everything at my place is Frigidaire, they've all been good to me, in fact I sold a 10-year old stove here that was pretty much mint and still worked great. I don't see why I should pay more for GE/Whirlpool etc. It's just basic appliances.

Frigidaire is OK.

If price is an issue like you said it is, then its definitely a good option. Look at whirlpool too, you'll find a little more quality there for not much more $.

http://www.jdpower.com/homes/ratings...nces/index.asp

we used this buying all our appliances for our new house

we went with Kenmore Elite: Dishware, stove
Whirlpool Gold: Fridge
Washer and Dryer: LG

we selected the whirlpool gold fridge because the actual stainless matched the Kenmore Elite stainless steel, as someone already mentioned they come out of the same factory plus it was a little cheaper and on sale

keep in mind though I had to sacrifice me left nut on the cost
