One thing everyone has to understand about those that work at Subway. After working there for two or three days, their souls are crushed, their will to live extinguished; they become emotionless shells that only exist to heap piles of low-grade meat products and vegetables that should be used in pig slop onto lengths of sub-par bread that is chemically engineered to produce the best color and flavor possible while requiring the shortest amount of time in the oven.
Oh, and the hats are too tight.

Maybe this is just me, but Ive noticed the service industry here in the US blows the service industry in Canada out of the water, almost universally. I've never had a problem - extra green peppers, extra cucumbers, the right amount of mustard, etc... is always easy.
I like subway because I get a footlong, eat half and have the second half a couple hours later. People have to be smart - alas - consumers, like voters, are generally dumb and fall into the advertising trap... "Duh, Subway says it's healthy, so it must be healthy... Ill have a footlong meatball with extra mayo on Italian with a large Coke and a 2 cookies."
People need to use their heads.

I read an article where one Subway employee printed that picture March Hare posted, and the next day his manager had put up a sign warning not to place the cheese like that. The idea is to get people to buy additional cheese if they want "full coverage"

Haha oh I know, Subway's nuts when it comes to sauce distribution. You take a bite and youve got mayo and sub sauce all over your shirt. Not that its any healthier, but I've always preferred Mr. Sub. I at least dont need a bib when I eat it.

chicken breast on wheat, no cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, green pepper and southwest sauce... mmm. So is this considered healthy at all. I don't think the sauce would add too much fat.

The only things I don't like about Subway are the HUGE buns they use (they're about 2 times as wide as the meat that's in them, so I end up throwing half of the bun away after I'm done), and the amount of sauce that they use.
That being said, I'm not a huge sub fan anyways, so I don't eat there all that often. Donairs are where it's at.

You should come up to Edmonton then, I swear there's a damn donair store on every streetcorner. Drive down Stony Plain Trail and I defy you to not point out at least 5 or 6 donair shops. Its insane!

The one thing that drives me nuts about subway is the banana pepper stems that get mixed into your subs. I love banana peppers, and wretch every time I bite into a crunchy, foul tasting stem. I can't even count how many times I've asked them to take them off when they throw my sub together. Is it really that hard?
As for the sauce problems....tell them how many stripes you want (eg: 1 stripe of mustard). It seems to be the only language they understand.

On the topic of subs:
Anyone notice how Quiznos subs are no where near the lengths they claim to be? A 12" sub is usually about 10.5"; 6" and 9" subs are also shorter than their claimed lengths.
Complain about subways huge bread but it at least lives up to its marketed lengths.

I know this isn't related to the topic, but since you brought up Quiznos, I urge anyone wanting to buy one of their flatbread pizzas to skip out. They're gross.

I allways get the same except I also add Jalopeno's and black olives. The chipotle sauce is listed as full flavor. Which means full fat and calories. If your on a wieght reduction meal plan. I'd skip the chipotle sauce. But if your just maintaining. What the hell. It tastes great.

Ive toasted a lot of bread in my life and Ive never seen bread shrink that much. And if it was the case that its pre-cooking, I dont see that as a disclaimer in any of their marketing material in the store, on their website, or anywhere else.
My guess is the stores cut the bread shorter so that they have to put less toppings on it. if you cut a 12" sub down by 10% to 10.8" then you save 10% on the cost of bread, meat, veggies, sauce, etc.
With Subway it would be more difficult to bake a shorter bread. But with Quiznos, the bread is cut by the employees so i can see the franchise owner making the decision to make the subs smaller. Even 5%smaller would mean youve increased your margins by 5% which is huge in the restaurant business.
All speculation.

The few times I've been to quiznos, I noticed they have a marker on the cutting board to determine where to cut the bread. If those markers are shorter than what they're claiming, it'd be pretty easy to prove. I think that'd be grounds for getting legal.
It'd be pretty stupid for a manager to do that.

I am quite lucky, the subway located about 5 minutes from my house has been rated the best in North America 2 years in a row. They will customize it anyway you like. I have ate at quite a few over the country and none add up to this one. Located on 22nd St. West, Saskatoon, SK. Canada.
If you are ever in town try it out and compare it to your local subway.

I was actually in Quiznos on Saturday and the guy ahead of me ordered a 12" sub. The girl got the bread out of the bin and before she could cut it, the guy said, "dont cut off the ends, just leave it whole". I didnt know what his problem was until now. Im going to do the same.

Keep in mind this article is from USA today... based on my experience, American Subways have bigger sandwiches... same length but fatter.
