McDonalds healthier than Subway?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/...y_N.htm?csp=34
Interesting article that I think may be quite accurate.
When I go to McDonalds, I spend about $3.00 on a double cheeseburger and a small drink. I don't eat anything for hours after.
When I hit Subway/Mr. Sub, it's a footlong chicken-something with a medium or large drink, and often a bag of chips.

I think what people forget when they go to places like subway is how much fat there is in processed cheese, mayonnaise, sub sauce and any other oil or cream based sauce. Not to mention the sodas, chips and cookies that accompany it. Because of this, a loaded caesar salad tend to have even more fat than french fries.

Yeah, and when I try to get the people at Subway to cut back, they look at me like I have an arm growing out of my head. Only once did a person understand that I only wanted 2 pieces of cheese, and was nice enough to spread them out evenly. And ask for just a little bit of mayo, and splat!- followed by them asking if that's enough.

I have also experienced the "Subway people looking at me like I'm nuts" phenomenon when I get my oven-roasted chicken breast sub without cheese or mayo.

I've been struggling for years to get the items in the Sub even distrubuted throughout the sandwhich. It is impossible. They are the worst 'artists' I have ever seen.
Likewise with the 'Little' Mayo and mustard. They dont understand the words 'little', 'tiny', 'small' or 'just a touch'. Even hand gestures do not drive the point home. I have yet to figure out how (other than 'none') to not end up with a Mayo and mustard dripping sub - by the last few bites, all the excess Mayo and mustard is squishing out of the bottom.
I am so sick of it that I no longer go to Subway.... it wasnt that good anyways.

2 Subway petpeeves:
-Even if i say i want very little or almost no lettuce I still get enough lettuce that it could be a lettuce sandwich on its own and then funny looks when i ask them to remove the lettuce
-Asking for very little light mayo or a thin thin squirt usually results in a 2 huge squirts back and forth across the sandwich. ugh.

I think if you're estimating the number of calories before ordering, you probably shouldn't be eating there.
Do people really lack the self control to not have that hamburger?

It takes a special kind of person to be a "Sandwich Artist". Like the woman who worked at teh Subway by Memorial and 28 st. She puts one, thin line of mustard on my sub, I ask for a little more. She puts a second thin line. I ask for 'just one more, please'. I like my mustard...
Next up: my buddy's sub. She asks him if he wants sub sauce. He says yes, and she just starts squirting this stuff like she's putting out a fire. She put so much on, we just stared at eachother and started laughing. The woman is just standing there, sub sauce ready, just waiting to see if he dares ask for more.

Dont get the yellow cheddar... its processed cheese slices.
The other cheeses are at least "real" cheese.

I don't know about healthier, but from what I've seen McDics definitely run a more sanitary operation than Subways...*shudder*

If you stick to the healthy menu at subway and drop the lard (errr mayo) then you're ok. Whole wheat bread not white....turkey instead of meatball...sweet onion sauce instead of ranch. Its not that hard they put the freaking health facts on the menus..

I am the opposite. When I go to McDonald's I usually get a Big Mac meal and I am simply unable to finish the fries and pop. I am still hungry, but I can't choke it down. Often I'll get a Big Mac meal with a small cheeseburger and mostly waste the fries and pop. And after I am usually still hungry, but sometimes I don't want to eat because my stomach is still struggling to digest all the processed crap.
At subway I usually get a foot long turkey sub with a bottle of juice. I find it much easier to eat, even though it is more food. Plus I am not hungry after and my stomach doesn't make me pay for it. But I do agree with most people here and that sometimes the artist (laugh) puts a small a garden on the sub, and uses the sauces like they need to get rid of them because they have 50 litres in the back.
But I rarely go to Subway or McDonald's. I try to avoid fast food as much as possible. But if I do want a sub, I'll try to seek out a Vietnamese place.

I knew this was going to happen...now I'm craving Subway. It happened with McDonalds too when I saw Supersize Me...went there for the first time in years right after getting out of the theater.
Anyway, this article is not that surprising. I always spring for mustard instead of the sauces, and I've taken to splitting my 12" sub, and only eating 6 at a time...often time it's good for two meals.

It depends on what you order at Subway. Of course soft drinks and cookies are bad for you. Don't eat them. Chips? Come on. If you go to Subway to eat healthy and then get a bag of chips to go with your sub, you deserve to be fat.

I have always wondered why the cheese was shaped like that yet never put on to maximize its size.

I find Subway never puts enough sauce on my sub. I need to ask for extra. Maybe it's people like me that are skewing their reality of a normal amount of sauce.
I agree with the veggie distribution issue. Sometimes there are bald spots in my lettuce coverage. They do attempt to fix when i point it out but it has gotten to the point where i sometimes just throw on some extra toppings when i get home. My biggest pet peeve is how they always attempt to put the white/green tomatoes on my sub... I usually make them replace them with red ones unless the whole lot of them are hideous.
I am also craving Subway now... mmm lunch is just around the corner.

I find the buns at Subway are gargantuan. More carbs in a footlong Subway sandwich than I want in a day. Mr. Sub's buns are more the right size.
